I fully appreciate how important it is for the club to concentrate on our EPL position and to maintain our strengths for the league matches but I also believe we need a win on Saturday to help boost morale. If we are defeated, that would be 3 defeats in 8 days and a draw would make matters worse adding to our resheduled matches. I wonder if Ollie may just include a few of the first team available for Soton, a team that at present is going great guns and with a home crowd in excess of 20,000 should really be up for this one. Ted seems to think our team of league one standard players are going to lose, I don't think we will, but Soton are getting in plenty of goals at present and the last thing we need is to go out of the cup well beaten. As a fan there will be no pressure going to watch this one, unlike a league match, but I just feel we could do without a defeat for the sake of morale or the draw for the reason I mentioned.

To some extent i agree but this match must also be used to get a full game for some players and to rest others i would say the line up will be something like below
Rabs Keinan Edwards Baptiste Evatt Adam Demontagnac (think he is back off loan) Husband Euell Ormerod Sylvestre
bench
Kingson Phillips Harewood (should be back by weekend) Campbell Vaughn
think he wll give GTF & Varney the weekend off

My team for saturday would include.
Rabs,Baps,Rob Dekal,Brett, gnashers, ludo alf in fact anyone in the squad that needs match time.
Ollie played a "weakened" team against Villa remember and very nearly pulled it off.
Moral is a two edged sword though,if these players go and get the result (which I think they can) they feel good ,the ones that didn't play start to look to their own position. The ones needing sharpness get a chance to get sharp.
Plus I find it strange to be completely disinterested in the 3rd round of the cup,if we win all well and good I always wont us to win,but its not like we need to pull a big club in the cup.We play them all twice anyway!!!!
Enjoy the day though,I understand living down south how much the bragging rights will be worth.

its not like we need to pull a big club in the cup. For most of the clubs in the 3rd round, we ARE a BIG club

I really dont think we should take Southampton lightly. They have found themselves on a good run of form and are banging in the goals.
After attending the devastating MK Dons match I am hoping for a better result in the FA cup. We have a fast, attacking team with a never-say-die attitude that plays good football. Can we play it well enough for 38 games? I dont know. But we can we play well for 5 rounds and have oursevles another trip to Wembley.
As Ollie keeps stating, we might not get any more points at all this season. Teams have sussed us, they now know what we are about...this 2nd half of the season will be much tougher. If we lose 10 games in a row now and head for the bottom 3 you lot will be wishing we stayed in the cup...!

My thinking is that Chubs is a strong contender for the 'keeper position - just to give Ricky K who deserves a well-earned rest for his recent endeavours- Georgie Eastham has been brought back from Carlisle and is a strong possibility as starter, alsong with a few others we haven't seen 'tread the boards' for a while - Dekel, Edwards, Baps, plus Keithy S, Brett O - so who might the others be?
We don't want any bookings or injuries, especially as Liverpool are looming on the horizon, so Wee Ollie is quite right in sending out a second string/bench players for this game, who need a run out.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the Prem is our priority for this season.

bench
Mark Halstead Reynolds Harewood (should be back by weekend) Mitter MacDonald

Don't worry Oxford, the team will not let us down that I am sure, we may not win but will push forward and play just like we normally do, a team of youngsters and oldies, under the watchful eye of IH, UP THE POOL.

well with the two guys that have gone on loan today, i am somewhat stumped as too who we will play now if ollie is as good as his word that the first team are staying at home, i can only guess a couple more of the youth team are going to make the trip.
but you can bet your life we wil play the same formation and attack attack attack

I hope so Whit!
Still think we should bring some strong players and put them on the bench at least. Maybe Vaughan or Adam on the bench. DJ or Varney on the bench. I'll be cheering on like mad but I dont want the Saints to embarass us in front of the nation. I really think we stand a good chance in this competition. Would really demoralise the squad if we were to be knocked out by a lower league team

Cant blame Ollie for playing the reserves, we have just had 3 game in 8 days and another game and have 3 in the next 8 too. added to the fact it was nearly 3 weeks without a game before sunderland with little training and they have gone from rusty to having to an intense period of games. They need a break.

VIEW from the Itchen bridge, stadium in background. A very nice stadium all filled in looks impressive and the stewards we came across very pleasant and polite. All in the North West corner of the ground, great view except for the first 45 mins the sun shinning very brightly straight into your eyes had most people using their hands as sun shieds. On the concourse heard the team news, nothing surprissing there then and then the game began. The main problem I have is to say that here we have two teams, forgetting whose in the sides for a minute and just focus on the way they undertook the task before them. Southampton looked from the start like they wanted to win this game chased after everything possible, when we passed the ball they intercepted, never gave us any time and passed the ball around better than we did. We gave the ball away far to often, sometimes on the edge of our box and on several occassions nearly payed the price. It was as though our lads were at times frightened to shoot when the oportunity arose and at times you had to feel that they had played very little football together as a team and that showed against Southampton who played well together. At half time with no score we were not out of the game, both sides had several chances and my thoughts were that it would end up as a draw possibly 1-1. I dont think we were outplayed in the game, just that Soton as a team looked the more settled side. TB came on about 10 minutes into the seconed half and went out to the left wing then changed over to the right side and although not given too much of the ball, looked for spaces, called for the ball on occassions and just seeing him on the field running thought he could be a valuable assett at a later date. Nice to see Rabs back, made some good saves, got plenty of practice in today and for his first match for a long time thought he was very good. Phillips, Eardley and Keinan thought had good games and Keith put a few good passes together. In the last few games I have seen, our passing and giving the ball away to the opposition seem to be our main problems, this isn't just about individuals its about the whole team and it needs to be sorted. I am dissapointed because I hate to see us loose, thats 3 games this year and dreading the next 3, January is going to be some month one way or another. Goodnight and sleep well

Not even suprised by the outcome of the game. A thoroughly disappointed Blackpool fan. Even though we put our "reserves" out, most of them couldnt even pick out a pass to another of our players. Southampton intercepted a few, but most where just sloppy, inaccurate balls. A lot of passes/crosses went straight out for throw ins. Ludo and Keinan really shocked me. Ludos passing was awful and Keinan plays how I used to play, if in doubt, get it out. No, you are a professional footballer, you cannot think like that. I know you all want to focus on the league and I am being incredibly pessimistic but we should have fielded a strong team and won this, a few Prem teams have been knocked out and I believe we genuinely stood a chance. If we now go on a stinking run of defeats and find ourselve in the bottom three, we will look back and think 'hmm a good cup run would have been nice' Overall, Rabs had a decent game (flapped a bit), Keinan, Ludo and Southern were abysmal. Euell and Super Brett just didnt have the pace. Best thing about the day? The chant: "The FA Cup, who gives a fuck, we're Blackpool aces and we're staying up!" says it all hey?!

At the end of the day i can understand peoples disappointment, but Ian is right in doing what he did and warned everybody he was going to do it, what it highlights more than anything is or sheer lack of strength in depth and that we need a few players to get us to the end of the season, then maybe ian can have a summer to seriously strengthen the squad.
but it could be worse you could be a newcastle fan
