Answer: Nuclear submarines.
Faslane is the present UK Nuclear Submarine base.
The Holy Loch was, until it closed in 1991, the USN Polaris (Nuclear) Submarine base. Its heydays were the 1960s and 1970s.
We used to stay at Kilmun then.

Q # 159
On this railway line, in West Scotland, it takes 12 minutes to get from ( ? ) to ( ? ), but to do the same journey by car, it could take you a couple of hours. Where am I, and what are the two stations?

No - the answer was incorrect. Nobody stated that the Holy Loch was also a Nuclear base, did they? No need for eye candy - we already have a 'adjudicator' as you so eloquently put it in a previous post. No - you're wrong (again). I did not "..take 36 hours out..." ( without due cause) if you had read Post 645 properly, you'd see why, and, quite correctly Sher, took over the question when it was obvious i couldn't make it, and therefore your point re 36/4 hours is negligible. And No - nothing to do with the Masons... next?

Thank you, Sher.
Correct.
The judge would be passing a death sentence on you. (Capital Punishment was abolished in 1969).
You're in the Chair for Question 161

Post by yenilira on Feb 10, 2012 12:16:58 GMT 1
Gawd! The number of times I used to watch this, and never paid much attention to the town's name....
San Sebastian, San Bernadino or something like that?
Lots of Spanish (place) names round that area?

If you'd asked me the nearest town to the Alamo, I'd given you the answer in a flash, but 'Bonanza'...... I wouldn't even attempt to hazard another guess ... unless I have an 'Eureka' moment.

while you wait for your Eureka moment a couple of interesting facts about the show.
up to 2004 people could visit the actual set
The show ran for over 14 seasons which was unheard off in American Tv at the time through the 50's and 60's
The inside of the ranch was actually filmed on a Hollywood sound stage.
Ponderosa Ranch was filmed at Lake Tahoe, and parts of Bonanza were filmed on its shores.
Bill Anderson worked with the film crews on location, cutting roads and building fake outbuildings, approached the show's producers and NBC with a proposal to build an exact replica of the house exterior in Hollywood, with a copy of the sound stage interior inside, creating a detailed replica of the fictional ranch house. Anderson's Ponderosa opened in 1967. But as TV viewers focus moved away from western based shows, so the numbers of visitors fell it it finally closed in 2004 and was demolished.

okay the answer was Virginia City, and before anybody starts about it being called a city.
The nearest town to the Ponderosa was Virginia City, where the Cartwrights would go to converse with Sheriff Roy Coffee, or his deputy Clem Foster.
So moving swiftly on
