I've said 'Discovery' before which is now at Dundee, the 'Victory' is at Plymouth' and what with Darwin's trips and ventures round the world (he was originally a minister?) I'm going to say 'Adventure' ?

HMS Beagles sister ship was.....
HMS Kangaroo.
after the third long voyage, Beagle was retired to coast guarding duties. It ended up as the next coastguarding/customs ship to Kangaroo , less than 5 miles away.

The adjudicators state that Member Whit's answer is perfectly acceptable for the purposes of the question.
That being the case, the Chair is now in Whit's possession, as another Question has not been forthcoming since the deadline for the previous question, therefore Whit, your question -

Just to clarify a few points of “...and your starter for ten....” I reiterate the guidelines for Questions: Vide Post 1. (1) Each question runs for 24 hours, or sooner if answered correctly. (2) The person who answers correctly gets his/her opportunity to ask 'The Question' for within the above time limit. (3) If no-one answers correctly within the given time limit (ie. 24hours), that person gets another chance to test our grey cells. (4) There is no limit as to the type of question – any subject but football. (sensible questions though). The following amendments/additions were made to the above as necessary: It was suggested, without dissent, vide post 12, that the '24 hours' be reduced to '6 hours' and that no 'googling' be permitted on any question vide post 11 (as verified by posts 56, 57 & 58). It was suggested that is obligory upon the questioner to be able to state whether an answer is right or wrong during the question-time and not right at the end of the six hours of their question. Without dissent, the point that if the individual does not put forward a question within, say, one hour, of being informed that their answer is correct, or at the end of the time limit of the question, their chance to ask a question be forfeited, was also accepted. Answers must be confirmed as either correct or incorrect during the time of the question. The Adjudicator(s) decision is Final. (vide post 606) I hope the above clarifies a few points for colleagues... and ensures fairness in asking questions, and keeps the 'game' flowing.....

a little bit of Northern interest in this one. to the left of the picture is a converted Leeds shortboat, which used to ply its trade from Wigan to Leeds over the Leeds/Liverpool canal. It is now used by a british couple as their residence at Port de Roanne. right, question time. staying on topic...... the Loire department (similar to our counties) has a capital which shares its name with a pop group. What is it?
