I was chatting to some Gillingham fans yesterday. They were a bit surprised that they had been approached by Pool "fans" to boycott the game to support them in their Oyston protest. A bit of a long shot when you think how far they has travelled to watch their team. Talking to them they were almost oblivious as to what was happening here at our club which shows that as fans we are a pretty blinkered lot.
I never could understand the boycott route because I cant see how it will make a difference. Fans are also fickle and if Pool start getting a bit of success it wont make the slightest difference because fans WILL start to return. The journey to the Prem was a classic case of this as more and more fans started to get on board after all those years of gates that averaged about 4000 and below. As Seasiders through and through we can feel a little stir as the team starts to stabilise and get a few results and gates will surely start to increase, boycott or not.
I personally struggle with the mindset of the militancy that has been shown at BFC. I think I now realise that my time has been and gone as regards my personal outlook and philosophy towards being a football fan and supporting the mighty and indeed life in general sometimes.
Well, this was just a little musing because I cant remember the last time somebody posted on here. Nothing too controversial but for us of a certain age it is just so sad to see the anarchy that slaps you in the face at every turn regards our beloved team compared to how it used to be back in the day whether we were successful or not.
Best wishes to all.

Hi, Sandy, long time no see I am afraid I have turned into one of the militants. I have been so disgusted at the lack of progress with things like the training ground 6? years after Ollie was promised progress, lack of support for all the managers, the winding up of fans, then making himself out to be the victim, suing defenceless customers. We all used to be so positive, looking for the best, glass half full, yet have slipped from the top to the third tier whilst having plenty of cash available to support the lads. The chairman has blamed everyone but himself, has never even apologised for the relegations despite saying he would be judged on results. Haven't been a supporter as long as you, Jimmy, but was always happy at whatever level because everyone associated with the club wanted the best for the team. I no longer believe this to be the case. Any other business would have sacked it's chairman for such poor performance, for alienating 2/3 of his customers, you and I both know that from our own experience. Anyway, all the best, how's the handicap?

Hi Ye Olde, good to hear from you. I can well understand everything you say and even I gave up trying to defend KO a while ago now. Its just seems the militancy has gone to extremes with the pitch invasion and the storming of the directors box. I just don't buy into that sort of thing.
Don't get me wrong, I reckon I have waged fisticuffs with every team in the land at one time or other back in the day. Even had a last crack at Preston the year we got promoted to the Prem. (I was 64 years old then and should have known better but old habits die hard with certain teams) Nowt changes lol. If you remember I stopped going a couple of seasons ago after a lifetime watching the mighty Pool because I was falling out with our own fans and their relentless criticism of everything Tangerine. I just don't have the stomach for fighting and arguing with my own. Fans mindsets have changed and I no longer feel comfortable or part of it sadly and unfortunately.
Not getting out on the golf course as much as I would like to right now but holding my own when I do. I hope that beautiful part of the world where you are is looking after you Ye Olde.
Take care my friend. Up the Mighty.

Always respect your views, even when I disagree, and I knew Karl was in trouble when you stopped defending him The Highlands are as good as ever, lotsa snow on the mountains at present, so days off are fun. All the best Sandy, maybe when they are gone we can all meet up for a beer and enjoy our Team again

Thanks April, hope you are well. Tis sad my friend how it is now but I had the best fifty odd years of my life supporting the mighty. Most of those years were in the doldrums but as fans it always seemed to me we were as one when it came down to it. Why do we need so many different supporters associations? I do not understand. Don't get me wrong because I think our fans are as passionate as ever but it just seems since the Prem we have become so divided. It was always a danger I felt could happen as fans expectations and aspirations have become perhaps a little too unrealistic. For sure the infrastructure of our club should have been assured with the finances gleaned from our day in the sun. KO thinks it has been in his blinkered way. Maybe the blinkers will come off one day and his vision will become a little more peripheral; who knows? Best wishes to all

Yeah, I'm good Sandy. For me, whilst I understand, and even, to a point, agree with, what BST are attempting to achieve, I just got sick and tired of the verbal & physical abuse some of the more extreme of the Anti-Oyston brigade were subjecting those who did not agree with them to.
That, together with a few changes in my lifestyle resulting from my reconnecting with my Christian faith meant I no longer had the desire nor the time to subject myself to the Cauldron of hatred that Bloomfield Road had become. As our church (https://valleychurch.eu/) has recently launched a Blackpool extension service on Sunday Mornings which meets in the 53 suite at the BFC Hotel, my visits to Bloomfield Rd are pretty much only on the Sunday mornings I'm serving there

Always the greatest respect to you Sandy (especially as one who came to my brother BJC's funeral) and like yourself, I have just run out of "supporting" steam and even run out of steam to battle against the militant "Oyston Out" brigade. I appreciate the lack of progress and in fact the present demise of our club but people tend to forget the state of the club before Owen took over. We very nearly ceased to exist as a club at all and Owen pumped his money in and rescued us from the ashes! He then, sadly, got himself duped by the unscrupulous tabloid press into committing what technically in law was classed as rape and consequently paid the appropriate penalty. We sadly have also been paying the penalty as he handed over the reins of the club to his clueless son who only sees the club in terms of his own personal bank balance. Even before we reached the Prem people may remember I stated that "Koko didn't have enough ambition to run a sweet shop"....oh how I wish I'd been wrong! Any, best regard to you all and maybe I may just start coming back on here if I felt there was some resurgent interest in the club's fortunes.

Good to hear from you micky. Totally agree with you about Owen. I can remember like it was yesterday when he came on the scene and without a doubt saved our club. He was and is a true Blackpool fan. I have seen him and Vicki on the motorway services celebrating with the fans. I remember a game being postponed in London at short notice and him walking into the pub and quietly handing the barman a few hundred quid to buy the fans a drink and then just as quietly walking out again. I have lots of stories like this that don't get told. When he got sent to prison many fans turned against him which obviously hurt and was a reason for making the decision to hand the reins to Karl and the ensuing mess we find ourselves in. I defended Karl for quite a long time hoping he would take the blinkers off and put his stubbornness to one side but it hasn't happened yet. I live in hope.
It is, what it is, though micky and once I came to the realisation that football fans and their mentality has changed at almost every club to mirror modern society I sort of accept that there is no place for me in that mindset. I will still love to watch from afar and maybe get in the odd away game where the true fans are usually to be found.
Great to hear from you micky, hope all is well with you and yours.
UP THE MIGHTY
