Been reading some football sites and I thought this summed up the coming season from my point of view.
Football was once known as a working class game until alas money reared it's ugly head, now players earn huge amounts of cash and it's become a sport of affluence instead.
But when you love football it's in the blood even though it's changed so much over the years but there's just something about a match day the banter, watching a game, and having some beers.
So bring on the opening match of the new season and I hope I leave with a big smile on my face but a football campaign is tough and very long so I'm fit for a marathon and not a sprint race!

I do wonder whether in the end money will split into a super league, maybe European, because there can be little competition for the big boys in the National leagues. This unfortunately means people like 95 % of footy fans teams will never get to play the top on even terms. even the fair play rules actually cement the status of the super teams. Still watch the Mighty if I can, Prem or 4th division, twas ever thus. Living away for most of my adult life, although I always go to games on my own, I love being surrounded by MY people, with the same accent, history, the smell of a footy crowd, the edginess, the banter. Bring it on Unless I'm in Scotland

I hate the close season as well SHERLOCK, but admit I will looking forward to the fixture list due out soon.
I can remember many years ago before 24/7 news and the internet the chairman saying in the next couple of weeks we hope to secure a goal keeper a forward and couple of half backs and it wasn 't until you saw in the paper some time later that we had signed so and so., much easier on the nerves.
