Not straight out of "how to manage a team" manual, and he's probably just talked himself out of a job, but I have some sympathy with his comments. I might be a bit harsh but I can't help feeling that these lads are playing for the status and lack real energy when it come to England matters. The question is whether thats down to the preparation or just a general lack of application. I'm sure we have the ability in the squad so why does it not translate on the pitch? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22865904

I think one of the main reasons is the timing of the tournament, no matter how much it might mean to play for your country maybe the powers that be should consider that all footballers are in holiday mode during the last 2 weeks of may and most of June and they need a break from the game and maybe sometime with the families.
If the FA could consider to stop arranging pointless games during the season for the senior squad which then disrupts the league schedules it would help as well. A game every 6 weeks is not going to help England's performance in any tournament.
As for psycho I think he has managed his last U21 team, but he has to take some of the blame as well, I personally think that Pearce has got that fed up of it all that some of his passion and desire for england was been washed away

Pearce was driven by his passion and maybe he doesn't see the same in his team...hence his unusualy direct comments about the players attitude.
I know players have a long hard season, and especially in the Championship, but I still don't think they would swap lying on the beach for playing for their country. If they do they shouldn't be in the squad.
I'm not taking sides as I'm not convinced about Pearce's ability to manage a team either.
I just hope we can straighten it all out over the next 4 years.

I would like to believe playing for your country still matters but sadly I think unless its the senior squad a lot of them really are not that bothered
