www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-22176042I was under the impression that the new Police Commissioner's role was to ensure accountability and openness. The link is about a story which appeared in Cumbria a couple of weeks ago, that the new commissioner had spent £700 on chauffeur driven cars for a couple of evening engagements. Fair play, he repaid the money ( mind you, who gets work without a quote?) but the arrest of those responsible for whistleblowing seems to me to be very strange Thought we as a country had moved on from this, post MP expenses fiddles

I could easily save the police money and get more police back on the street its really simple so would never happen.
Would start by getting rid of the new Commissioner's followed by the police chauffeurs for ACC and CC sorry but drive like everybody else or learn to drive, then stop mucking around using 23 different suppliers for uniform and kit and then standardize the actual cars and vans used and make them use the same through out the country, but most of all cut down the bloody paper work so they can get back to policing and not forgetting the where theres blame theres a claim culture that is rife in the force and cost over 23 million last year.
My eldest brother was a policeman for 30 years and he finally took retirement as it was becoming more of a office job than actual policing and said the whole system is now more pen pushers than policing

Sherlock for Home Secretary!!
Another topic where I suspect most of the board agrees, but the politicians will continue to plough their own unaccountable furrow. Maybe we need a national police force like the Jocks have just started, the drop in the number of very senior officers is spectacular.Have area Superintendents and Regional Commanders. Use technology to do the paperwork in the car. Efficiencies of scale and purchasing, as you say, would be enormous

its so very simple so yet again nothing will happen, A friend of mine that works in London for the civil service said this when i had a rant in the pub over something at him about something similuar "things that are simple have to be made complicated and expensive before they can be considered by any government"
