Leaving her politics aside, I'm rather saddened by some of the vile hatred and comments regarding Mrs T in the last few days, what has happened to this country is rather shameful. At the end of the day she was a human being but the way some people are behaving you would think she was the leader of another country during the 30's up to 1945.
Like i said don't want to get into her political time in number 10 but when you see people protesting that where not even born when she was at the hight of her time in office and the social media places trying to get the song "the witch is dead" from the wizard of oz to number one, just makes me want to leave this country even more if i could.
Wonder what some great Britons of the past would make of todays society, bet most are already spinning in their graves

I guess you weren't around during her time Sherlock. The views are so polarized directly as a result of her politics and actions in those days. She destroyed whole communities, peoples lives and livelihoods by her lack of compassion or "give" in her determonation to force through change. That change may have been needed, however, the way it was done is the reason for this wave of reaction. Using the Police as a paramilitary force. Selling off the nations silver (electric, gas, rolls royce engines, council houses....etc etc etc) without ploughing the money back into new housing.
I think the key is that todays society has become the extreme of her vision, greed, everyone for themselves and "there is NO society".

I was around during her time and while not wanting to enter into politics of it all, it was probably the last time the UK had a PM with some steel instead of todays fluffy members of parliament

If this forum were a voting democracy, I for one would be voting to have this thread removed from the site.......the one thing we have in common is our love of all things BFC and that's what makes us a community, to bring politics onto the site is, by the very nature of party politics in the UK, divisive! It is likely to cause rifts between members that may never heal, so please Sherlock, as Chief Executive and originator of the thread, please remove it.

Micky, we had/have rifts over Keith Southern and the Oystons, so having a difference of opinion over a political figure is not a bad thing. I remember her in various ways, having taken over from Callaghan in the seventies with continual strikes and Unions hell bent on confrontation she would have been wise to have taken a leaf out of the German's book when it came to management/unions. She was on the other hand well respected on the international stage, unlike recent leaders she stood up to Reagan when he wanted us not to invade the Falklands only because it didn't suit US policy and yet she got him and Gorbochev together and played a part in a much better understanding with Russia. In Europe, yes she wanted to be part of it but not at any price and stood her ground, but at home the introduction of the poll tax and one of the really stupid ideas that came out from her government, left it's mark. Worst of all was probably the fact that she was surrounded by such wimps, Macmillan a previous tory PM, and more a socialist than a tory, Heath who never forgave her for toppling him as leader, Heseltine who I can't think of one decent word to say and most of the others who were a total wast of space. I think of her as a strong determined leader, something we have not had or likely to have in the near future, did some really good things and some pretty serious damage also, but she was a human being and we all get things wrong at some time in our lives. Even with her rights and wrongs she deserves our respects at her funeral, she was a British leader after all.

whatever her right and wrongs it is probably the last time for a long time that we have a politician with some fire and belief, I have given up on all the current crop of politicians of all political groups.
Bring on the Boris at least it will be amusing and a laugh as everything goes tits up.

Bring on Boris, please no Sherlock, what after he openly encouraged West Ham to take over the Olympic stadium with a large chunk coming from the taxpayer and two huge loans from the London development company and Newham council. Bloody good when the local council can loan them £40Million, think of the social housing that could have been provided instead, in an area short of affordable housing stock in a deprived area of London.
