So here we are then, last five games of the season coming up and there's still plenty of differences of opinions as to how many points we still need to guarantee our survival this season. So, who've we got left and what's going to happen?
First up Burnley, currently in 11th place on 54 points which leaves them 8 points shy of a play-off place, so I think they've probably given up on this season and are looking at mid-table mediocrity. This gives us a fair chance at 3 points if we play as well as we can.
Next, Sheff. Wednesday, the only side we've got left to play who are below us......but only just and therefor, like us, will be fighting for everything, so a very difficult game. Sadly, it's a home fixture so our pitch is going to make this another lottery and we'll probably have to settle for a draw at best.
Third game is a tough away game at Brighton....currently in 6th place on 62 points and wanting every point to assure a play-off and possibly even an automatic promotion slot. I don't think we should expect to get anything from this fixture.
Penultimate game is against Derby who, like Burnley, are on 54 points but lie 10th on goal difference. Also like Burnley their season is all but over so we stand a fair chance of nicking 3 points from this game. However, once again, the caveat of it being a home fixture applies and as such, our pitch could play a part!
Final game, away at Horwich.....impossible to call atr the present as they currently sit in 8th just 2 points outside the play-off places so how they'll approach the game against us will depend very much on their next games and wether their season is over or, they have a play-off place to go for. Either way we can't be going into this game needing points.
Now, don't get me wrong, these aren't my predictions......they're my hopes! If what I've said works out, then we'll finish the season on 58 points and, you'd have to say, safe. Hopefully then we can look forward to a close season where the problem nematodes can be sorted out and the pitch put back into good fettle and PI gets an opportunity to build the side up with some new signings and impose his style on the way we play. I for one, think we're starting to look a more solid side under PI so the future's bright.....the future's Tangerine!!
C'mon the 'pool.
