I have been reading posts here and also elsewhere these last few days and a particular theme seems to be emerging. Every time somebody from the club says something remotely critical of Ollie its to attack his character. Sorry, I just dont buy conspiracy theories of any kind.
Aren't we in danger of canonising Ollie a little bit?
Ollie came along at the right time for him and the right time for Blackpool FC. It was a marriage seemingly made in the wastelands of footballs equivalent to "Blind Date." Both pretty ugly at first sight and not liking each other too much on their first meeting but they grew on each other and started courting in earnest.
Both eventually expressed great fondness for one another and vowed they would never part. It was all wine and roses and the marriage was a great success. But, the passion doesnt last forever as we all know dont we guys and gals? When that happens to one side of the marriage or the other,,,,,,,trouble.
Cracks started to appear and the smallest gripe gets magnified out of all proportion when a relationship is like that. Now we are in trouble. It doesnt help when one partner in the marriage has lots and lots of friends telling you what a rotter your partner is. In this case, many thousands!
All his dreams for the future with the wonderful ideas he thought he had when he was celibate for a year or two werent particularly good for a long term marriage. Good for the short term but not sustainable. Poor Ollie had no more ideas left to save the marriage.
Its at times like this that the grass seems greener and when a particular southern belle fluttered her come to bed eyes. Well, he is only human eh?
As always in the breakdown in these relationships, its the children who suffer but time is a great healer. Maybe our new stepfather will makes us all feel better again. He does seem a little stricter but I guess thats for our own good in the long run.
Ollie's time with us was fantastic and I wouldnt have missed it for the world but, we move on.
Nope, no conspiracy theories for me, just a good old fashioned marriage breakdown. Par for the course unfortunately these days.
Onwards and upwards
