With all the comings and goings at BFC of late I have to be honest and say I feel a little bit isolated in my thoughts on everything. I havnt got emotional about Ollie leaving because deep down I felt it was on the cards sooner rather than later anyway. I feel that no matter what was offered or not offered his heart was always "darn sarf." We were a brilliant job for him at the time of his appointment because he wanted to showcase his new found philosophies of the beautiful game after his time in the wilderness, and wow, did he. But, talk to him off the record and he will say even he was surprised at the success of it all and it was always going to be unsustainable. Great while it happened and definitely the best trip we have all ever been on but which also put a monkey on his back that he has had to carry ever since. His only way out was well, out. I also feel isolated in my thoughts and outlook because I cannot join in this seemingly ritual vitriol that Karl Oyston always seems to attract and even "hate" in some cases. Sad, very sad. Of course, it could be argued that I support the Oystons when I shouldnt but I constructively critcise and become irritated with them at times but also give credit where it is due. Its just that I so vividly remember the dark days of Cartmell and his cronies to know that as a Blackpool fan I have very little to feel down about these days. A new young manager with a team in the top half of the Championship and all to play for. Nope, not a lot to feel down about for this sandgrown Seasider. But, c'est la vie, its a changing world with a changing people with changing outlooks and attitudes. It just those outlooks and attitudes I cant get used to or understand sometimes. I am glad in a way though. UP THE MIGHTY

Hi Sandy
3rd paragraph is a great summary of our time with Ollie. In a few months time we might all come around to that way of feeling.
As regards Karl I think "hate" is a strong word and not one I concur with. Frustrated, Annoyed, exasperated would be better. Yes for 30 years before Ollie we were in the lower leagues. 30 years before that though we were a top team attracting the best players in the land. No-one ever expected us to reach anywhere near the level again but we did .The financial rewards for doing so these days could have created something special for a decade at least.
The more I think about it the more I realise that ultimately it was Ollie's decision to leave us at this critical point in our lfuture but even the best motivator needs someone to motivate him. Karls lack of ambition and relentless grasp on the purse strings may ultimatelly kill the dream far sooner than it should have.
I enjoyed how our rag tag team who washed their own shirts and ate beans on toast rather than pay £12 for Chelsea Lasagna gave some prancing premier league show ponies a bloody nose. To this day we changed the way teams play at the highest level.
Having made the breakthrough to the promised land we needed to shake that image, be taken more seriously, and capitalise on our success. That first January transfer window was a joke and ultimately we paid the price. Who was to blame for the fiasco we will never know. Was it a lack of financial assistance or a lack of PL nouse??
Anyway we are where we are and I hope there is still a chance to do it again.... but properly. My fear is that we will witness a slow decline whilst the Oystons get fat on the PL money rather than build a lasting legacy for the club.
As ever I'm trying to remain optimistic and hope the new guy knows how to re-light the fire.

Hi Sandy
Great read.
Regarding Karl I think its the first time many of us on here have truly shown our temper and anger towards him and it will blow over, Do I hate him and the family, No not really am I frustrated about how he makes us look as a club at times and every time he opens his mouth? the hell yes I guess so because when it comes to media he is dreadful and so is the whole club PR.
I know the club has a future but and this is the big but for me now the training ground come on we must at least get this done even dragging it into the 90's would be a start

I have kept quiet since this episode started. I was devistated by Olly leaving. But I must admit even I, who is the most optimistic Pool fan who has never predicted a defeat for my beloved football team, believe that this was probably the time for Olly to leave. We were starting to lose too many games to teams that we should be beating, maybe thrashing. Olly does not seem to have a plan B as it is called. Sandy you talk a lot of sense. I remember well the pre Oyston days, without them Pool may not exist and like most of my old school mates I could well be a Spurs supporter.( Shit I have to go now and wash out my mouth with soap and water) Up The Mighty Pool and the very best of luck to Michael Appleton. (And Karl)

Words of wisdom as always from Sandy Just felt so much in the last year that a little more investment would have reaped dividends for both the club and the owners. You may all be right about Ollie, and he certainly wasn't the positive outgoing guy who got us to the Prem, but the start of this season was sublime. Anyway, as always as Pool fans, we'll look back in a few years with a better perspective. On a lighter note, being dying to say this : Don't you think "Appleton's Tangerine Army" sounds more like a fruit salad than a football chant?

Sounds brilliant, but only if marinated in rum over night.

Its a new chapter in the history of the club.
I think he has a good squad to work with I can see us playing 442 instaed of the normal 433 we are used to but it might make us a bit tighter at the back amd hopfully he sorts out our problems with defrndig set pieces.
Looking back on the Holloway era it is the best times I have known at the club but on the minus side he did bring alot of average players in (and a handful of top ones too) but if you look at the 1st team alot of the players are from before Holloway was there.
Do we know if Appleton has money for the Jan transfer window ?

Good comments Sandy! Like yourself, in the past, when it appeared the majority were Karl haters, I was one who supported his "way" and was (and still am) proud of the fact that we were and still are, one of the few football clubs in the country who can boast about being financially secure and in the black. I'm also very well aware that I may have sounded like a dyed in the wool Karl hater over the past few days. However, this is only because I am so frustrated with Karl at the moment and that's all down to his apparent lack of ambition. When we talk about our glorious recent past and those of us who are old enough compare it back to the Cartmell days, it's perhaps a little too easy for us to think everything's actually ok at the moment and perhaps we're being a little harsh on Karl. Let's just think about one or two things......Karl was very happy to make an £11million "loan" to Owen (we only have his word for the fact that it's a loan don't forget), we supposedly made £90million from our Premiership year and what do we have to show for it? We have the final NE corner of the ground! That's it! NO undersoil heating, NO training ground, NO indoor winter facilities, NO long term contracts......which all ammounts to NO way of attracting better quality managers or players and perhaps NO way back into the Premiership to earn those £90million pound sums again (lack of ambition!). When I talk about better players, I'm not for one moment suggesting we break the bank by paying the stupid sort of wage bills that has crippled many another club, but by just loosening the purse strings a little we may be able to avoid becoming a selling club again (selling not because we need the money like we did in the past, but selling because our best players want to leave for a slightly better wage elsewhere!) Without the training ground and indoor winter facility we haven't progressed.....there will still be times in winter when the players can't train which is hardly conducive to being competative in the Championship or Premiership! Without the undersoil heating our pitch has become a mess and is more suited to the kind of "hoofball" approach you see from lower leagues and not the Barcelona/Brazil style we have aspired to recently. That, in a nutshell, is what's frustrating me at the moment....just the godamn lack of ambition. Karl has to begin to realise that a football club is a bit like a brass ornament....it looks lovely....but if you don't polish it occasionally it becomes dull and tarnished and ultimately you just throw it in a skip. That's what worries me, I'm deeply passionate about Blackpool Football Club and have been ever since I was a small boy in the sixties and I'm starting to feel like the wheel's turning back again to those dark days of asset stripping directors and their lack of investment in the club's future! So come on Karl, get your fucking Duraglit out and start polishing! Get the fucking training ground and pitch sorted for starters! Let's shine again in the Premiership!!
C'mon the 'pool, c'mon the 'pool, c'mon the 'pool, c'mon the 'pool.....
Just a final note.......here's hoping that Michael Apleton makes Ollie look a bit second rate!
