Another game, another defensive calamity.
It is becoming an all too regular tale in recent weeks, Blackpool failed to defend properly and as a result dropped points. Gilks desperately needs some competition or even better a replacement likewise Evatt and Eardley.
The positives were that Blackpool scored, didn't lose and played a lot better than the previous two home games.
The pitch seemed very wet with water kicking up which was strange seeing as there has been no rain for several days. Maybe we are trying to create a water based pitch like in hockey.
Ludo and Gomes came in for Delfounseo and Angel and Blackpool made a bright start and could and perhaps should have been ahead inside five minutes, a magnificent move saw Crainey exchange passes with Ludo and Matty Phillips before finding himself in on goal, his shot beat Camp in the Forest goal but hit the post and went out for a goal kick.
Forest responded and claimed a penalty shortly afterwards but the player went down too easily and the protests fell on deaf ears.
The referee and his assistants were utterly woeful. The referee did not seem to know how to spot fouls and there were numerous clear fouls that were not punished committed by both sides. The most obvious and shocking example was when Ince broke free on goal, was through on goal, brought down for a clear foul, red card and free kick, but not according to Mr Ilderton.
Blackpool did not create a lot more in the first half. Matty Phillips looked more up for it than in recent games, Ince was largely ineffective and seems to have lost some of his confidence and Taylor-Fletcher was woeful for large parts of the game.
Forest managed to get their noses in front on 25 minutes from their first corner of the game. The defence were so busy concentrating on how they might win a header from a ball into the box that they forgot to mark a player on the edge of the area, the ball was played back, the first shot was blocked, Pool failed to clear and Billy Sharp managed to turn it in beyond Gilks who was just standing there on his line as usual.
Blackpool were livid at going 1-0 down. Not because of their woeful defending but because there was such an obvious push on Osbourne in the lead up to the corner that was not penalised by the referee.
Forest had further chances to double their lead before the break, Gilks made a good save from Sharp and Baptiste recovered well following more shaky defending to deflect a shot over the bar.
On the stroke of half time Blackpool had their best chance since Crainey's earlier effort,Ince pulled the ball back to the edge of the area into the path of Eardley who shot. I think that if Eardley was trying for an hour to kick the ball as high as he could he would not have got it as high as that shot.
Blackpool made a bright start to the second half but the game soon settled down with Forest wasting time and Pool not looking likely to score. Grandin came on for Gomes who had not done much and immediately looked lively. Not long after Ludo, who had played well was taken off along with Eardley, who hadn't, and Delfounseo and Dicko came on.
With twenty minutes to go Blackpool equalised somewhat out of the blue, Phillips crossed to Grandin who headed in. I was surprised that the flag did not go up as Grandin looked to be clearly in an offside position.
Blackpool were revitalised by the breakthrough and at last began to put pressure on the Forest backline and five minutes later they had the lead. Taylor-Fletcher, who had been utterly weful seem to scuff a shot from the edge of the area but there was enough on it to see it slide into the back of Camp's net.
There were still 15 miutes left and those who know Blackpool well never really expected them to be able to hold on to the lead and so it proved.
Blackpool tried to keep the ball in the corner as much as they can and seemed to sit back somewhat inviting pressure, neither of which Pool are good at. As the clock ticked past the 90 minute mark, Forest played the ball forward to Dexter Blackstock, who also looked a bit offside, and the Forest substitute fired in beyond Gilks. It was another poor goal to conceed from a defensive point of view.
Blackpool did not really deserve to win the match but it was disappointing to have the three points snatched away at the end. It was definitely an improved performance and hopefully Pool will have enough positives to take into Saturday's match against Brighton.
I would like to see a midfield of Osbourne, Ludo and Grandin given a go from the start. Hopefully Ince can gain some confidence and find his goalscoring form of the start of the season but most of al hopefully the defence and goalkeeper can quickly learn how to defend and stop giving away soft goals.
