Well, I certainly didn't see that one coming before the match but after some fantastic home performances Blackpool were as poor as you could imagine.
Evatt came in for Cathcart in the only change to the team which saw off Middlesbrough so competently, but there are very few players who came out of the match tonight with any credit.
It was clear from the outset that Huddersfield's tactic was simply to hoof it forward to their two strikers, Vaughan and Novak. Everytime the ball was hoofed forward Vaughan and Novak found themselves two on two with Evatt and Baptiste, Vaughan or Novak won the header and then picked up the second ball and we didn't know what to do or how to cope.
It was from such a hoof that Huddersfield took the lead, Vaughan flicked it on, Novak skipped clear of Baptiste and fired in beyond Gilks.
Blackpool didn't particularly respond well, Ince and Delfounseo barely touched it and Taylor-Fletcher repeatedly gave it away. Ferguson had a very poor game and made some very poor passes.
However, Pool did find themselves level approaching the half hour mark, Ince got hold of the ball, did really well to beat his man and passed to Taylor-Fletcher who applied a simple finish.
Blackpool then seemed to wake up and for five minutes were well on top but they only really created one clear chance with Gomes firing over when well positioned.
Blackpool conceeded on the stroke of half time for the second game running. Crainey gave away a needless soft freekick on the touchline, the ball was whipped in, the defence didn't move, Gilks stayed still on his line instead of coming to claim and Vaughan headed home a simple chance. Piss poor defening and goalkeeping. Everytime the opposition get a set piece the Pool defence goes to pieces and you just know that more often than not a goal will be scored.
Five minutes after the break even more pathetic defending saw Huddersfield double their lead. Eardley committed the foul on the side of the box, and the free kick was swung straight into the net, Lord only knows what Gilks was doing in all this.
Blackpool didn't improve and continued to waste possession and created very little in the whole game. I don't think that there was a shot on target from a Blackpool player in the second half. Baptiste headed over when he should have hit the target, substitute Matt Phillips shot wide as did Delfounseo and that was pretty much it.
The substitutions were bizarre. Kevin Phillips was on 25 minutes but barely touched the ball and no longer is of any value to the team, Dicko did nothing and Matty Phillips was sent to right back after a few promising touches on the left wing.
So, a truly shocking night both in terms of the weather and the performance. The back five were shocking, the attackers barely got involved and Osbourne was perhaps the best performer in midfield. Huddersfield adapted to the conditions much better than Blackpool, in fact I'm not sure if Blackpool adapted at all. Huddersfield basically hoofed it and Pool couldn't cope.
The one positive, thank God Southern doesn't play for Blackpool any more. He was woeful chasing shadows, passing to Pool players and committed two clear bookable offences neither of which was punished with a card. Shame on those Blackpool "fans" who felt the need to stand and applaud him.
The performance can only get better at Cardiff on Saturday.

No complaints really we played dreadful and they came with a game plan and stuck to if even if its hoof ball it was the plan and it worked.
its one game and hopefully we will get a response for the next match will not go down the road of blaming one or two or in this case 5 players and the manager.
Still trying to calm down from having to listen to the shit our own fans say about players anybody would think it was the end of the world.
played bad very below par performance we live and learn
But all i will say is osbourne and ferguson does not work

Credit to Huddersfield. They had a game plan and it worked. On top of that we simply didn't take them on. Not enough confidence on the ball. The ref was shocking but no real excuses. Not the end of the world but after such comanding performances at home this season we just didn't turn up tonight. If we want auto this season we have to adapt and have a plan B. Oh and defend set pieces! Goodnight.

Ted's had a vendetta against Southern for a long time, almost everyone else respects the years of service, and the commitment that he showed every time he pulled on the shirt. As for Pool, can't believe that I got up at 4:30 in the morning to watch that. We never got going, shocking in defence, didn't seem to have any impetus in attack. The substitutions didn't have any real effect, despite having 6/7 attacking players by the end. Kev barely touched the ball, everyone else seemed ineffective. We were far too willing to just hoof it to nothing and concede possession, Evo was especially guilty here. But still, only one game, still 40 (or there abouts) to play, so lets just make sure that we pick it up for the next couple of tough away games.

Got back too late to comment last night, probably not such a bad thing anyway!
I think the defence struggled in open play because Crains and Eards were in their usual bombing forward mode, the pitch was so wet, they were slower coming back, leaving Baps and Evo to cover two attackers. Also, not sure whether you all saw, but Baps got the back of his foot crocked by one of them early on, and it took him ages to get back up to free running.
Gnasher will be well at home, a couple of tackles by his new mates were leg breakers, if we got away without any injuries, we'll have been lucky, how Crains got booked for BEING TACKLED, I have no idea. The ref and West side lino were very poor.
I do agree about Super Kev, Dicko did far more in his short time on the pitch. Gomes was very uncomfortable, with passes going miles astray. I do have considered concerns that the Spanish pass system will not work in English wet and heavy pitches, we ended up playing header ping pong, the talented midfield got bypassed.
Personally thought Matty looked hungry and dangerous when he came on, thought his use as an RB was a good idea, we used to see him there when he first came. When you are chasing the game, having a fast big beast there is a pretty good idea, and at least he did get a couple of shots off. The Fonz's turn and shoot nearly broke the hoarding, inches wide, on another day, a certain goal.
Overall mixed feelings, didn't gel last night, 'Udders came with a plan, wasn't pretty, ref allowed them to get away with dangerous play, and massive time wasting, and Larry went home with 3 points.. Maybe we actually need nice frozen pitches to skip across!!
Not sure where this leaves us, and I still have a unkind thought that Sky cost us 3 points by moving from Saturday's lovely weather to last night;s deluge.

Still mad over the way a section of our fans are to quick to jump on players backs during a match maybe they have had it to good. Not that i don't disagree with them at times lol.
But got to agree with yeold, Baps seem to take ages to recover from a nasty ankle crusher tackle but the most positive thing was to see some fire and desire in Matty for the first time this season.
and for matches in those conditions maybe we should have a plan b, because you can bet your life next time we play at home the visiting team will set up and play the same way

I think we still need a big old fashioned CF, who can hold the ball up. Da Fonz isn't big enough, felt sorry for him cos his positioning was spot on, but every time it dropped to him, he was out jumped, so hoofball was wasted. You are so right, we have to have a plan B, probably with a different forward line, for wet heavy winter pitches.

Applause to Mr Grayson, take a bow. A few years ago, we managed to return to the hallowed ground of the Championship for the first time since the last ice age. We stayed in that division by playing high tempo, pressing football, we always had two players on every opposition player and our midfield was bossed by a certain KS. We LOVED it. At long last we stood toe to toe with the 'obbers down the road, and held our own, and stayed up. It wasn't always pretty, it certainly wasn't Barcelona, but it worked. Mr Grayson has set the 'Udders to do the same. His team last night forced us into errors and deprived us of time on the ball. Our defence was also shocking and yes, knocked around.
Of course we play wonderful football on a nice sunny day/good pitch, but perhaps this is a timely reminder that we also have to get stuck in, work our arses off and defend as a team........whatever the weather.

Not a great performance and I guess we got found out a little last night. But, we are still in pretty good shape wouldnt you say? Onwards and upwards.
As most folk know, I gave up my season ticket this year because I got so sick of listening to "fans" moaning over the slightest thing, I couldnt stand it anymore. I was falling out with our own fans nearly every home game over it all. Too passionate I suppose. I was coming home stressed out even after we had won. Listening to Sher it doesnt look like anything has changed much. Expectation levels have just gone through the roof now and with it brings hyper criticism. Its so sad.
I love my club and I am still so passionate about them but glad I made that decision now. Fifty odd years going down to Bloomers and now an armchair fan. My family cant believe it,,,,lol. C'est la vie.

I am sure you will still come to some games sandgrown'um the draw of bloomfield will be to much for you.
Everybody has a right to voice a view, just annoys me during the match as i think its counter productive.
Think the one that got me seeing red last night was some mouth piece shout that evo is the worst defender we have ever had.... yes he had a bad/awful game but no need to take it that far.

If you mean the 2 posts deleted off this thread, I deleted them.
Profanity filled rants about Ted's views on Keith from a couple of Huddersfield fans . . . . not that I disagreed with the context, just that the language was totally inappropriate for what should be a family site.
As an aside to that, can I ask that when people put up the more "mature" entertainment threads they mark them NSFW for those of us checking the site in our lunch hour.
For me, Keith showed us exactly what we were missing in midfield, we never had a chance of winning a physical battle there with those 3.
Gomes, for a lad of his size, seems incredibly easy to bully off the ball, maybe he needs to spend more time in the gym than shopping for colour co-ordinated boots
Osbourne, seems to cover a lot of ground, trouble is most of it in headless chicken mode, and when he has the ball, he has about as much of a clue as to what to do with it as a headless chicken
As For Fergie, I've said all I need to before . . . save for the fact we would now be better off playing Bloomfield Bear instead of him
For me we have to start Angel and either Ludo or Grandin

I have dealt with the issue now all content has been move to the Hospitality Lounge which is members only area and everybody should be aware of the content within. Never gave it any real thought before and had forgot i had removed the members only block from the side windows.

Well Ted .......that got them all going!
Be honest though you just couldn't resist a sneaky snipe at Keith. We both know it was just a bit of fun. Some people have a serious lack of humour. Maybe everyone is just a bit sore today.
