Three home games, three victories, 12 goals scored, 2 conceeded. On this sort of form Blackpool will win every home game this season. The only baffling thing is why they approach away games differently.
Holloway made plenty of changes again with Cathcart, Crainey, Osbourne, Ferguson, Delfounseo and Gomes all coming into the side.
I think that we have learnt in the last few days that Osbourne and Crainey must start if fit. I have no doubt that if they had started at Barnsley we would be top of the league.
Blackpool started the match against Middlesbrough very well and were really tearing the visitors to shreds as it looked like Pool would run riot against a very poor looking opposition.
Blackpool had already come close twice when Taylor-Fletcher fired wide and Ince drew a great save from Steele before taking the lead ater 8 minutes when Nathan Delfounseo scored on his full debut poking the ball in via the keeper following a through ball from Taylor-Fletcher.
Blackpool continued to dominate as Boro looked like rabbits caught in the headlights. It looked to be only a matter of time before they doubled their lead as Ince in particular mesmerised the defence with his trickery and skill. The keeper saved a header with his foot at point blank range and Crainey saw a superb shot pushed around the post.
Middlesbrough did have the odd chance with Gilks forced to make a good save and Miller firing into the side netting.
The second goal did arrive ten minutes before the break when Ince robbed the full back and picked out Delfounseo on the edge of the area, the on loan Villa striker firing confidently into the bottom corner.
Moments later he had a wonderful chance to score his hattrick but screwed his shot horribly high and wide.
On the stroke of half time Middlesbrough undeservedly found a way back into the match. They won a corner, the ball hit the bar and was half cleared only to be fired back into the box onto the head of the artist formerly known as Andre Bikey.
The goal galvanised Boro at the start of the second half and for five minutes they were well on top forcing a couple of corners but never really forcing Gilks to make a save.
Blackpool got their foot on the ball and eased their way back into the match and restored their two goal lead ten minutes in. Crainey did really well to win the ball, Delfounseo fed Ince who beat his marker, rounded the keeper and stroked the ball home.
This pretty much marked the end of the Middlesbrough fight back although they did have chances most notably from two free kicks around the edge of the area. The first was teed up for a shot which flew inches wide, the second was deflected wide for a corner.
Ince received a standing ovation from all sides of the ground as he was one player to make way in a treble substitution with 20 minutes to go which saw Grandin, Dicko and Matty Phillips come on. Grandin in particular looked desperate to grab his chance and show that he should be more involved in the team.
With eight minutes remaining Delfounseo thought he had sealed his hattrick, a deflected cross was headed in, there was no flag, the players celebrated, glad all over blasted out but Middlesbrough objected, the officials got together and the goal was disallowed. It did look offside but it is strange that the decision seemed to be given by the referee rather than the linesman.
Pool didn't have long to wait for their fourth. Grandin broke forward into the box, went down and the ref pointed to the spot. It seemed a bit soft and as though he was looking for it but much more of a penalty than the one awarded to Leicester a couple of weeks ago.
Delfounseo wanted to take it and claim his hattrick but Grandin was not letting go of the ball, the crowd chanted for Delfounseo to take it, Grandin stepped up with the pressure on and calmly found the bottom corner.
The rain began to fall very heavily as the game entered stoppage time as Pool saw the game out with ease.
Ferguson came in to the team to the disgust of a lot of people but he put in a superb display justifying his selection. Eardley needs to work on his positioning and passing and I would rather see Evatt than Cathcart alongside Baptiste.
A very satisfying night's work although, if we are being picky, it was a poor goal to conceed and we could have scored more.
Up the Pool!
