With one or two posters taking the opportunity to shoot off for the Easter hols., viz ‘Holidays are here’ (Louise)....
it got me thinking: with the present troubles in North Africa – Tunisia, Egypt, and such places, - well, who picked their holidays to coincide with the sights of shot-up tanks and aircraft in Libya? -
quite a number will be obviously changing the destination for their annual break.
Why not go to TÜRKÝYE, especially in September, October even?
November is also quite a feasible time of the year to relax in the resorts of the Turkish coast – the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, where temperatures often reach highs of 22C and 20C, respectively.
Can I get my footie fix whilst on holiday?
Of course you can, bearing in mind that their close-season is similar to ours – mid-May to the last weekend in August, dependant upon which league the local/nearest team plays in.
There are only two clubs in the Spor Toto Süper Lig (the Turkish ‘Prem’) based on or near the holiday coast:
The obvious one is MP Antalyaspor (which city has the airport for the region, and 87 miles from me in Alanya) who play at the Antalya Atatürk Stadyumu, at Fevzi Çakmak Caddesi, Antalya 07100, which holds 7,428,- 10,000 even.
www.albionroad.com/club-profiles/291-antalyaspor
The havalimani is to the south-east of the ground and the harbour is just slightly north-west.
It is envisaged that they will be moving to the new Mardan Antalyaspor Stadi, or Mardan Spor Kompleksi, to give it its proper name, sometime in the near future.

Tickets: You can sometimes ‘pay at the gate’, depending on who the visitors are.
An example, for the ‘big’ match in Turkey - www.turkishfootball.org/2009/04/07/ticket-prices-for-the-derby-match-are-announced/
For Fenerbahce vs Galatasaray, for example, you will need to obtain tickets from Biletix.com at 110 TL for a moderate seat, not the best of course, but not behind the goal keeper either. Usually, the seats behind the goal keeper are around 50-60 TL (approx. 25-30 Euros). Anyway, on the day of the derby at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium, people were selling tickets in the black market for 500 TL.
Galatasaray, who are lying 14th in the table, are presently having their worse season for about twenty years.
I paid around £25 for a stand seat at the Atatürk last year against one of the ‘lesser lights’ of the Süper Lig. Matches are usually played on a Sunday , kick-off 4 or 5pm.
There is also an Antalyaspor team which plays in the Yerel Amatör Lig.
Then there is Bucaspor who are located in the city of Izmir, roughly 68 miles north inland of Kuşadasi, in the Aegean.
They play at the 10,000-spectator Yeni Buca Stadi.
There are no clubs on the coast in the Bank Asya 1 Lig – their equivalent of the CCC – but there are two from Izmir:
Karşıyaka S.K. and Altay S.K.
The İzmir Atatürk Stadyumu has the highest capacity – 51,295 – of any ground west of Istanbul/Ankara.
There is also Denizlispor, from Denizli/Pamukkale which is 115 miles inland to the east.
The next league down is the Spor Toto 2. Lig which is split into two divisions of 18 teams each: - the Kirmizi Grup (red group) and the Beyaz Grup (white group).
In the Kirmizi Grup there is only Fethiyespor, (out of Dalaman Airport) who play at the 8,372-capacity Fethiye Şehir Stadi where matches are generally played on Sundays, ko 1:30pm. local time.
The Şehir - www.footballexperts.net/turkey/teams/fethiyespor
es.scoresway.com/?sport=soccer&page=venue&id=7125
In the Beyaz Grup, there is of course Alanyaspor, where you can ‘pay at the gate’ on league match-days Sunday, ko. 1:30pm - approx. 10TL, roughly £4, for a ‘seat’ in the main stand, sitting next to a jendarma or zabita or two, and there’s two ear-splitting ‘Hoggies’ within that part of the ground.
The Alanya Milli Egemenlik has a total capacity of just over three thousand, seven hundred, and their equivalent of ‘Wonga’ is ‘Başkent Üniversitesi.
The Milli is a 1TL bus ride to the south end of town, the ground is on the beach-front road.

Foça - Foça Belediyespor play at the 11 Eylül Stadı in the Bölgesel Amatör Ligi. Gp8.
40 miles north-west of the city of İzmir.
Both these resorts have İzmir Adnan Menderes International Airport as their Havalimani.
Kuşadası They have just been relegated to the Aydin Bölgesel Amatör Lig and play at the Özer Türk Stadyumu" near Ladies Beach (to the south of the town) but I am not sure of the schedule or fixtures. Their colours are black & white stripes. Prices? Might be 1 lira for the grandstand and 50 kuruş for behind the goal.
Unfortunately they only publish the details locally in the newspapers, but there is a website – of sorts.
Apparently, Roman Abramovich has some connection with the club.
