So here we are at the business end of the season, with around half a dozen teams in the mix for the bottom 3 places. Having had a look at the remaing games I make no predictions on who will go down but have a few thoughts on the various teams chances.
Blackpool
With 4 of the 6 games at home, we will hope to pick up enough points to keep us up, Wigan to day is a massive as a win for us would give us a little breathing space, followed by Stoke and Newcastle who will both consider themselves safe but have little in the league to play for, also Bolton at home another team that is safe but not challenging for Europe. We also have Spurs and United away where anything would be a bonus.
Today the Bolton Stoke semi final could have a bearing for us, a win for Bolton and apart from our game with them being moved, possibly to the mid week before the final, which will surely be on their minds, also Stoke could be deflated for our game with them next week.
Blackburn
On paper they have a hard run in ,home to both manchester teams and also A local derby against Bolton, and away at Everton looking for Europe and 2 relegation candidates Wolves and West Ham, 5 games where the other team have something to play for abd a local derby, although not predicting anything I think points will be hard to come by for the Rovers.
Wigan
Another tough run in with 4 games away from home and 2 away, none are against really big teams, but 2 against fellow struggglers, plus everton and 3 mid league teams.
Birmingham
The team with a game in hand, although 3 tough away games at Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs plus Newcastle too, although the 3 homes dont look too bad one home game against fellow strugglers Wolves
West Ham
2 of their away games are at Chelsea and Man City plus Wigan, and homes games against Rovers plus Villa and Sunderland, teams that could possibly slip into the mix.
Wolves
All Wolves games are against teams not challenging for honours, two of which are against fellow strugglers Rovers and Brum, Wolves would appear to have the easiest run in.
On paper it appears Wigan and Rover have the most to worry about, Wolves could well escape. So that would leave us, Birmingham and West ham foer the last place. At lot will depend on the results when the strugglers play each other and certainly if we make the most of our home games we ought to be ok, 2 wins and 2 draws ought ot be enough, its still a big ask though our home results havent set the league alight, but we do score goals at home.
So who will finally occupy the bottom 3 places? Who knows football is a strange game at times.
