On reading the 'excuse' of a 'broken toe' that Haye gave when he lost to Klitschko, and other such tales, for example, Man United's 'grey strip' was at fault for them losing to Southampton in 1996, ...when Blackpool lost to Bradford in the League 1 playoffs on 15 May 1996, the then manager, Sam Allardyce, blamed the loss on the 'ghost of Lord Nelson.' What's all that about? Anyone know the story behind it? YL.

Because the old board room at bloomers was supposed to be paneled out from the boards salvaged from his flagship! In 1897, the Foundroyant was blown onto Blackpool sands during a violent storm and wrecked.
In other words he was blaming the board as in he was told to loose the match!!!!

Thanks, Sher - it's coming back to me now. Prev. read re part of the ship in the board-room.
I suppose that the great Admiral's ghost is supposed to have a wander round the place now and then scaring the living daylights out of staff.
YL.
