Big Murph is back in a coaching roll at the club
Blackpool FC can confirm that former striker John Murphy has returned to Bloomfield Road to join the coaching staff.
The 34-year-old originally joined the Seasiders from Chester in 1999 and is happy to come back to a club so close to his heart.
"I'm delighted to be back and I'm looking forward to working with the team," he told the official website. "The opportunity and role was too good to pass up."
Having now retired from professional level football, Murphy was already exploring other avenues when he got the call to offer him a role vacated by Stephen McPhee.
"It was a complete surprise. I was in work yesterday on a building site and I got a phone call asking me to come back and today I've been on the training ground. I was just labouring a bit but I was still playing a little on a Saturday."
Murphy was renowned for his strike partnership with Brett Ormerod during his previous spell with the club and he's glad to see his old team-mate still going strong.
"We were actually born on the same day," he revealed. "He's looked after himself and I've had injuries over the years which have taken their toll on me, but he's a great lad and I'm delighted that he's still playing. He's still a scruff though and I'm looking forward to making him run after training."
Blackpool fans will get the chance to see Murphy at the ground again when the Seasiders face Peterborough on Sunday.
