Has anyone else in Blackpool experienced these recently?
And no, I'm not talking about the medical ones where you have a loss of consciousness.
The kind of 'Blackout' I'm referring to is of the electrical type.
A fair swath of South Shore last night suffered a power outage which lasted about an hour and a half.
From what I can could gather (it's difficult to see in the dark!), it affected Watson Road area from Zell-Em's to Hawes Side Lane, and round by Dewhurst, and Powell Avenue?
And this is not the first time this has occurred this year: on Wednesday 18th we had a power cut from 17:55 to 19:05, not long, but it necessitated us checking up on our elderly and pregnant neighbours, and making sure they had a lights of sort - candles, torches, etc.
Granted, there are roadworks on Marton Drive and Vicarage Lane, but we've had works of that nature in the past to no effect.
Has anyone else, in Blackpool had any such interruptations in their power supply? Any idea as to the cause here in Blackpool?
Is this going to be a regular feature of Blackpool?
When it happened last night, my first reaction was - "Fookin' hell, we're back in Alanya again!"
Alanya, [and many other parts of Turkey] is prone to power failures on a daily basis and that's why we have our own generator for our apartment building, as do many others.
YL.

O/T on your O/T
When I got back from the game on Saturday, the missus said they'd had major blips, not cuts but such bad voltage fluctuations that everything went off, about 3 times. Happened again in the pub later, and part of Ambleside went out for a while.
I have a friend who knows about these things who has been saying for a couple of years that the network is on it's last legs, and needs serious replacement and investment. And obviously the colder it gets, the more pressure it is under.

Thanks, Ye Olde; that seems to be the most plausible explanation.
Though, having said that, the system has been on its last legs for years, so why now?

The problem is also across the water as the cold snap hits, as we get 15% of our power from the french and dutch grid well thats what the energy body said lol

So, the frogs and the clogs are to blame, then!

So, to get on my soap box again: 15 % of our electricity is from abroad Much of our gas, and getting bigger, is from some very dodgy places, and Norway Oil comes from the area of the world with more conflict per square foot than anywhere else since the universe was created Sounds like a pretty good strategic energy plan to me

What about the North Sea - didn't know we were at odds with Norway and Denmark and Holland.

and don't forget Scotland because they want ownership of all rigs and gas and oil if they get independence

The majority of the Scottish peoples do not want fookin' Independence -
54% so I'm told.
It's just one man's vision of Utopia!
Normally I would have a lot of time for Salmond but over this he needs euthanasiating.

no blackouts here.
My solar panel is working overtime this week, don't usually get as much as this at this time of year. My gas will last me until June, I have enough coal on board to last the rest of winter. ..and my diesel tank holds 250 litres, enough for 3 months with a couple of long cruises.

4Stands/Chef - whatever - long while since you had a name-change..... Maybe there weren't any 'blackouts' down your way, but in all fairness, I was enquiring of people in Blackpool if they had experienced such fluctuations of the electrical system ... but many thanks for your illuminating respose - it's nice to know that someone is nice and cosy whilst us up here in the frozen north are suffering from a lack of cruising weather: personally, I prefer to cruise on the Rhine or Danube...

That sunset pic was very nice.
I presume that is the usual idyllic scene you have most evenings from your moorings?
