Any day now, the human population of our little speck of rock is forecast to reach 7 billion. If you were to lay all those people end to end, they’d be very annoyed indeed. In fact, if calculations are right, they’d stretch far out into space, a quarter of the way to Venus. Everyone in this long line can be assigned a number: the oldest living inhabitant of Earth is number 1 and somewhere, very soon, a little gurgling bundle of joy will emerge as number 7,000,000,000. And, somewhere between the two, there’s you. But where? Well, if you fancy finding out, the BBC’s website can tell you: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-15391515When you arrive at the web page, type your birth date into the boxes (using two figures each for day and month, and four for year) and click Go. You’ll find out exactly where you fit into this long line of the Earth’s current human inhabitants, and how many people had been alive on the planet before you. There are a few other interesting facts and figures available too, so click the black Next button afterwards to move through the remaining steps. YL.
