Had a great walk yesterday. Since we've had our new dog, we haven't been up on the high tops, but decided yesterday, she was ready for it. She enjoyed her dip in the Tarn on the way up and down, quite fancied it myself!
Walked up Coniston Old Man from the Walna Scar road, the weather was amazing, shirtsleeves in March is crazy. The view from the top was breathtaking, You could see the Isle of Man and North Wales, but so clear you could even see the Wyre Estuary and the Tower.
Lots of people out, bit like the M6 going up, including the optimist in flip flops!
That'll keep us going through all the nonsense of the Easter Holidays

I love the Lakes, but never done any of the Wainwrights apart from the one brewed by Thwaites lol You can't beat having had a busy day and ending up outside a pub in the sun with a good pint I found this site last weekend if anyone likes walking www.owenswalks.org/

Looks good 511, our dogs are trained to sniff out the closest pub when we finish a walk. Actually, they know most of them, old fella normally refuses to walk past one of his favourites, bit embarrassing at times.
Little dog is same as the old one, Golden Retriever. One of the advantages of doing what we do is that the dogs can be with us nearly all the time.
And just to make you even more jealous, Sherlock, just back from the Black Bull in Coniston, just took Mum out for a meal. Pint of Old Man. nectar.

I like the Black Bull and its rude not to call in when in Coniston.
Has anyone been in the Watermill at Ings ? I've past it a few times and always regret not stopping to see what it is like.

I have its not to bad at all but the only problem is you need to arrange it so your not driving or stay over lol of course that has nothing to do with the 12 plus cask ales they had on offer when we called in last year. I felt i had let myself down by being restricted to just 2 pints

Watermill has always had a good rep, but even more so since they started brewing their own.
Really is ale heaven up here, so many good pubs and local beer, I have to be very careful otherwise would turn into a 20 stone pxsshead!!

while down here pubs are closing monthly and all you get offered is mass brewed chemical ale, personally i just go into lytham one of the last few places you can get a decent pint around here.

The only thing I would say is that they know they can get visitors to pay for it, £3.50 plus per pint is not exceptional. The town pubs, eg Kendal, are same as on the Fylde, lots closing, but some iconic ones like the Bull, the ODG, The Badger, Britannia, Travellers Rest, are thriving. Guess they make lots of their turnover from food, too.

There isn't many good local pubs about. Like Sherlock says Lytham have some good pubs(The Taps, The County & Ship and Royal) The Eagle and Child is always good when we go there but need a driver to get there. Wetherspoons normally have cask ales but not the best pubs but the Jolly Tars in Cleveleys is good.
