While we were losing at Reading , I was experiencing a shiver of historical football tragedy. Taking the Mrs. to a ( blooming expensive) antiques expo in Brussels, I found myself getting off the tram (another story) immediately outside the new Heysel Stadium. It is nothing like the old place where the tragedy took place, but it still sent a shiver up the spine. I had no idea where the place was.
Why tram when there's a perfectly good Metro? because it was suspended for a body on the line. Just what you want on a nice day out.
We may have lost, and I might have spent more than I wanted, but the shiver put everything into perspective : football ain't (pace Shankly) more important than life.
