Been a bit slow on here recently, I think the financial shenanagins and reaction to it has made this board quieter, in contrast to elsewhere where I am surprised some comments have been allowed to stand by the mods.
As an old Fart, this Social Media stuff, (blogs, message boards, Facebook, Twitter, etc ) is not yet entirely natural, and like the Telly, causes me to shout at inanimate objects such as the computer. I love it's immediacy, some of the viral stuff can be a real force for good, heaven only knows how you sell a paper newspaper these days. What I struggle with is the tendency of many users to get away with abuse, racism, sexism, and downright bad manners. The anonymity associated with use of nicknames seems to allow normal social mores to disappear, the speed of posting prevents meaningful moderation, in short, people get away with saying things about others that would lead to a good hiding if said down the pub.
Now, many of you know far more about this than I do, my IT provider despairs of how little I work at Social Mediaing our business, but do you think this free for all with no effective rules will continue, or do you think that it will settle down in time to something more acceptable to the majority? It is easy to point the finger at things like AVFTT, but the BBC blogs and certainly Facebook and Twitter can be easily as bad. Or am I just too set in my ways and grumpy, and should just pile in and give it out like everyone else?

No your right i personally hate them twitter and facebook etc, I only use Twitter for this site and as for facebook i have told the kids no way in this world. It will ruin the art of conversation in the end.
I have been busy this week so not have much time to do much on the forum but i think the last 2 weeks have knocked the stuffing out of people but hopefully 3 points tomorrow will help get people back in the spirit
