I have quite an interest in the environment, and for a number of years have helped run a local green business group, helping businesses improve their performance, and, most importantly, save themselves money So I see this article on the beeb, and it makes my blood boil www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18064363The interesting bit is part way down. People are buying more efficient cars, saving carbon usage and themselves money. So the Government is not getting as much revenue and will increase taxes, be it tolls, cost per mile, etc. What message does that send to people to do the right thing? And in the meantime, we are giving massive subsidies to people with the money to put in solar energy panels, paid for by all of us on our energy bills, whether we are struggling or not, because the technology does not work efficiently enough to stand on it's own two feet. And we, the government, are not investing in the huge wave and tide schemes which would both pay for themselves and reduce our carbon usage. And I hope no one takes this as a pop at any political party, because both the last two governments have got it totally wrong, IMHO Grrrrrrrrrrr

I have just completed another solar installation on my boat, I now have 300W and shouldn't have to run my engine unless cruising now until October, and then only on cloudy days. I get no subsidies. I am also setting up a business installing them on narrowboats (using the domestic household panels as they are half the price of normal 12V panels). I can get no support to set up the business.

That's great, Chef, and IMHO the way it should be, if it works for you, excellent. Guess you can't connect to the grid and get the feed in tariff.
Good luck with the business, probably teaching my granny to suck eggs, but if any of your customers run their boats as businesses, as an energy saving investment, you can currently write off 100% of the cost against profits in the first year. Have you tried your local LEP re grants to start business, or grants to customers to have it done , then they'd be more likely to use you?

I thought the current Nutters at number 10 had canceled the grants for people installing solar panels and by the way no matter which party is in number 10 they are nutters as well and so out of touch with the general public its untrue.
Just wait till Boris gets in then things will change lol
As for the cars your right they been banging on about making them greener and now are complaining about cars like the fiat 500 which is road tax exempt.
as for the tidal and wind farms blame activist as some group is always complaining about this that and the other, I remember reading a story about a guy who had installed a wind turbine with planning permission from the council but then the RSPB complained that it would frigthen a bread of nesting birds in the area and the council then revoked the planning permission and the guy then had to spend a small fortune being connected up to main supply
The whole country is knackered and it will not change till a party comes forward that listens to the public and not just on election days
