Further to the 'Baºkent' post, did you know......
that glasses, or spectacles, are usually 40-50% cheaper in Turkey than in this country for the same, or better, quality and brands, ranging from trendy to elegant, functional to feminine, sophistical to casual, innovative to extravagant.
A wide range – plastic (organic), mineral, policarbon – no matter what kind you have, they can be made according to the prescription of the optometrist - very focal, by-focal (near sighted), over-focal (far sighted) etc etc and....
delivery time is one to four days.
(and they'd possibly bring them to you).
You can have an eye-check-up in Turkey by an eye doctor (at the Baºkent, for example) but you can also bring the prescription from your own optician and they could produce a set here.
And they're very helpful:
In September, the wee screw to the hinge joining the frame/lens to the 'lug-'ole arm' (for want of a better phrase) had come loose, and got lost, from a pair obtained in England.
Yes, I did have a spare pair with me, but preferred those ones.
On the off-chance, I was passing 'First Optik' on Atatürk Blv. (Alanya's main drag) having gone into town to do some business, and thought –
”Why not? Nothing to lose but eight or ten lira, I suppose”
Popped in, said they could fix it, “'No Problem', come back in half an hour” so off I toddled for an Efes across the road.
Come the appointed hour, and with the repaired specs in my grubby paw, they refused to accept even a penny. They had also given them a good buffing up which allowed me to see even more clearly.
Not a word of 'Would you like to buy another pair',
'These sunglasses are excellent for this weather' etc etc.
like I thought they would, you know, the usual pressure into buying something else.
Just numerous 'Çok Teºekkür Ederim' s – insinuating that it was their pleasure that I had honoured them with by a visit to their business.
Now, where would you get Customer Service like that?
