BLACKPOOL FANS WIN WINKBALL AWARD Tue 08 Mar 2011 Blackpool supporters have been widely praised for their vocal backing this season - and now they've won an award for it.
WinkBall.com, the British video network that specialises in capturing immediate passion at events by engaging with the public, has given Blackpool followers their Football Fans of the Year award.
Armed with small flip cameras, you may have seen WinkBall reporters at Bloomfield Road this season, asking fans to provide their thoughts on football and why they love their team so much.
Blackpool supporters' passion and enthusiasm for football has captured WinkBall's ethos as a voice for the fans.
Kieran Hill presents WinkBall's weekly online football show and he explained that Blackpool fans have received widespread praise from avid supporters all over the country.
"They are a credit to English football," he said. "It is WinkBall's unique fan focus that makes this award such a prestigious one and I hope it gives the fans an extra boost as they move into the final leg of the 2010/11 Premier League season."
Daniel Hogg, Blackpool's resident drummer, accepted the award on behalf of Blackpool fans from striker Luke Varney.
Speaking about the club's fanbase, Varney said: "Our supporters have been a massive help throughout the season and great credit must go to them. The atmosphere this season, especially in night games, has been incredible.
"We don't get the massive numbers that Premier League clubs get but a great credit must go to our supporters."

Must never have been in the "shed " with the plastics then, thank god. Was in Block B of the "Shed" last night and have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the level of noise coming from blocks A & B as with the exception of a few, as my dyslexic friend would call them, "shining wits" most of us were joining in with North stand and trying to ratchet the volume up a notch. What really shocked me though was the constant tirade of racist, homophobic & sexist abuse that would have made Andy Gray blush coming from a coven of 5 or 6 members of the "fairer" sex who looked like they were likely still of school age
