As WH Smiths didn't have my usual photography mag in today I was looking for something else to read. I noticed a football mag that proclaimed it had the "All-Time XI” for every league club.
After purchasing said mag and on opening it, I was disappointed to find no listing for the ‘Pool until I realised it was only Football League teams.
Anyway, had a go at putting my “All Time XI” together tonight and would be interested to see who other people would pick
One of the hardest things was deciding, not so much who to put in as who to leave out
Should I have instead included Budgie or George Wood in goal ?
What about Peter Suddaby or Glyn James or Hughie Kelly in defence ?
Could I really leave out Alan Ball in midfield ? . . . . ..or Alan Suddick ? . . . . . Or Charlie ?
How about Jackie Mudie up front ? Or Jimmy Hampson ? Or Bob Hatton ? Mickey Burns ? Bill Perry ?
The only easy choice was the manager . . . . . Though Joe Smith & Les Shannon both merited consideration
GK George Farm
DF Jimmy Armfield DF Ian Evatt DF Harry Johnston DF Eddie Shimwell
MF Tony Green MF David Vaughan MF Tommy Hutchinson
FW Sir Stanley Matthews FW Stan Mortensen FW Mickey Walsh
Manager Ian Holloway
