Now before you all start getting your guns out and shooting me down in flames, lets take a moment to reflect on our transactions in the transfer window and discuss.
Jason Puncheon
Probably the best bit of business in the window as he is fit and eager to prove a point and has started to fit in nicely.
Sergey Kornilenko
Not match fit when signed and still struggling, translator left after a week of us signing him so is finding it very hard to understand what ollie wants and to communicate with the rest of the squad and is under constant treatment for a long standing injury
Salaheddine Sbai.
Looks good in the reserve games but yet to slot into the first team maybe one for the future.
Andy Reid
panic loan in my opinion just in case charlie left has shown some good touches and had a couple of good games but seriously unfit and if he could control his weight and get fit maybe could become a very handy player for us, but do we have time to get him fit?
James Beattie
Has split a lot of the pool fans down the middle over his squad selection, who would you have started the last few games Beattie or Harewood who is more match fit and score in the prem this season? before being sent out on loan
I hope they all do well but it does seem at time's that we are running a fitness studio and i seriously hope that when we stay up that karl opens the cheque book early rather than waiting to the final 2 weeks of the summer transfer window.
To give Ian time to get them playing the way he wants so we can hit the ground even harder at the start of the next season.

I thought Karl had said that in January funds would be available, but alas we ended up with a few last minute unfit and unwanted individuals only Puncheon being worthy of a place in the first team. As for Beattie and Harewood neither seemed to be match fit along with Kornilenko. On the 31st of DECEMBER 2010 we were 8th in the league with 2/3 games in hand and a golden opporuntity to cement our place in the league but strengthening the squad which was needed, didn't materialise and the 7 games in January with only one win took it's toll on the squad. Did any of our fans ever imagine at the end of 2010 we would be 8th in the Premier league with 25 points, I very much doubt it and if Karl thought the squad who had performed miracles up to then could carry on in the same way for the remainder of the season he was very much mistaken. January in my mind could be the pivatol point this season, the lack of strengthening the squad has been truly misjudged and I only hope we don't pay the price Puncheon on loan until the summer and Varney may well only be with us for a couple more months, one thing is for sure if we survive this season we will have to do a lot better than taking on players no one else wants. What have we spent this year, ok the stand, little on transfers, a new pitch for the summer and underground heating, say what £20 mil, I doubt it, increased ticket sales, Wonga and shop sales must have increased the revenue and to add to that tv money and £40 mil to boot from being in the Premier. I think I am correct in saying that a £1MIL is up for grabs for every position up the league you are at end of season, if we had spent a few Million in January we may well have ended up mid table at least and the transfer kitty would have been met. To be honest giving Charlie £50,000 a week if we stay in the Premiership might not keep him here but it would be £2.5mil over the next year well spent. Our fans think we are worthy of our Premier league status, not so sure about our owners though.

Simply put...Yes For me its not the targets we hit that bothers me its the ones we missed,I find it rather galling to see how well all the players we missed out on are doing. Who's to blame? god knows it looked as if Ollie identified the right ones but I guess a combination of greedy players and agents and Karl's careful approach conspired together to screw it up. Let's hope that come the summer we have managed to stay in the Prem and that the steep learning curve that everyone at the club has been on this year bears fruit and Ollie can get the players he wants. Whether we like it or not (personally not) we are not going to be able to compete with the wages being offered by other Prem clubs and even a large chunk of the Championship. I'm sure these things are well known at the club and wouldn't be surprised to see the purse strings loosened a bit once Karl and the Board start to look at the bottom line of Prem survival. There is a big difference between £40 mill for playing in the prem and a couple for being in the championship. This season was always going to be about survival and then see where we are,if it's the Prem and I believe it will be the summer should be very exiting, and yes I would offer Charlie £25k a week and see what happens,if the worst comes to the worst and he goes then all the cash should be given to Ollie to see what magic he can work. Of the five named I would only want to see Puncheon and Saladin here next season.

I worry when i see people talking about handing out 25k a week contracts to players, as before we know it we will be over commited and gamble on the club staying in the Prem this could result in the club suffering serious financial harm. If we are serious about giving the club a long term future we should be looking at how to increase the clubs no Prem league revenue, so expanding the ground, more hospitallity etc to make the most of a match day.

To my mind it's quite simple and also appears to be the current set up at Bloomers. The potential earnings of the players reflect their collective performance. It's heavily weighted to bonuses rather than wages and shows a certain amount of financial accumen from Karl. If players aren't happy with this arrangement then they either have no confidence in their ability or (more likely) no confidence that Blackpool will survive in the Prem. If they feel this way, then quite rightly, they have no place in our team.
Players that do have a positive attitude to BFC, and are willing to get paid on results, earn the right to play on a regular basis and prove they are good enough. This way they all have a chance to show their value in the Prem and if an offer then comes along form a super rich club which suits everyone, they can move on with our blessing.
I just think we have it absolutely right and, if we make it over the line this year, I bet they will be forming an orderly queue to join us next season.

Well said Pikey. I think has done wonders and manages the club as a business, and should be appluaded for this. Performance related pay is the model that all clubs should adopt. As for the transfers......agree that Puncheon seems to be fitting in nicely in the system we play. Reid clearly has the ability, but it's regular games he needs for match fitness and sharpness. I don't understand why we signed Beattie and Kornilenko there not doing it for me. Sbai, haven't seen him play, perhaps one for the future.

For me the biggest question is why did we let the Hare go out on loan and then bring in a couple of players to do the same job who, one has yet to prove he has the ability (and fitness) and the other clearly once had the ability but seems to have lost something since his best days on the south coast.
I can only assume there's some issue we aren't privvy to as I can't imagine Ollie agreeing the loan deal otherwise

We will not call him back, Ollie obviously does'nt like him or why would he send him on loan. I think once Dj is back Beattie will not get a game and we will be playing DJ, Puncheon, Varney.
