A few observations from Row D, Block B of the East Stand !!
First up I was disappointed there was no ! minute silence as a mark of respect for Allan Brown, one of the club's true legends
However, one could argue that there could be no finer tribute to him than the kind of battling, committed performance the team put in today
Where to start ?
Everyone probably knows my opinion ofthe traitorous bar-steward Matty Gilks by now, but apart from some dodgy kicking and being a tad slow to react to their goal. I thought he had a decent game and was happy to applaud him
I thought the return of Eardley and move of Baps to central defence made them less shaky and more confident than recent weeks with Evo (as usual), Baps & Crainey all having outstanding games
In midfield, I thought Gnasher really got into the barcodes faces and dominated them in midfield allowing Vaughan to be more creative in the centre and free up Charlie to use his range of skills to the fullest extent, I felt as a key matchup, despite their extra man in midfield we dominated the centre of the park to such a degree that they felt the need to switch to 5 across the middle with the replacement of Lovenkrands with Ireland.
Up front I thought the movement we showed on and off the ball absolutely terrified their defence and on a different day we could have been 3 or 4 up.
On a slightly different note I was a little confused over the choice of match officials as I understood today's game was due to be refereed by Martin Atkinson . . . . . . . . so it was unfortunate that it seemed Rowan Atkinson showed up instead.
I felt the crowd was very much behind the team today and even heard people in the East trying to raise the volume
