An article I glossed over the other day, and together with some comments made on 606, got me to thinking – which of our ground’s ‘locals’ are suitable for ‘away fans’ on match days?
The nearest drinking establishments to the ground, on Rigby Road, are the ‘Swift Hound’ (good? selection of drinks and food) which I’ve read as an ‘away’ pub, but looking at it, there seems to be nothing but ‘Pool fans there: …. the visitors must be hidden away in little niches inside.
Next door is Frankie & Benny’s (Boddingtons & lagers) which is the Pro-board’s regular pre-match haunt, and not many away fans come in – they probably prefer the ‘Hound’…… and Ted.
The designated away pub, by all accounts, is the ‘Old Bridge’ round the corner of Bloomfield Road at #124 Lytham Road. Very welcoming, one block along from the famous ‘Bloomfield Chippy’.
There is also ‘The Manchester’ at the Prom end of Lytham Road which also caters for those from other teams.
Also on Lytham Road, going southwards towards the airport, is, firstly, ‘The Albert’ which, it could be said, is more of a ‘locals’ pub than for football followers? …. Beers?
On the same side, in the next block or so, is another pub, with food, ‘The Auctioneer’ – I’m told this is another assigned ‘away fans’ institution, with real ale.
Just at the crossroads of Lytham Road and Waterloo Road is the ‘Dog & Partridge’ basically a ‘Boddies’ pub with handpumps, run by a colleague of mine, which takes in anybody, really. Very friendly establishment.
On the other side of the road is the ‘Royal Oak’ which has been refurbished? Very local?
Down Waterloo Road towards the Prom is the ‘Bull’ which needs, or has just undergone, a personality transplant.
About turn, and go over the ‘Waterloo Bridge’ inland, and at the second lot of traffic lights there’s the ‘Waterloo Hotel’ with its famous bowling green. Very family-friendly, caters for all. Good beers and meals.
Then of course, there is the ‘The Bloomfield’ which use to be the Blackpool fans pub, until that in the South Stand opened. .....
Not for very long, going by this -

There is one other worthy of mention: The ‘G Casino’ on South Prom, where the manager(ess) is on record as saying that ‘away fans are welcome’.
Anyone care to fill in the facts on this one?
In addition, there was the ‘CIU Club’ or ‘No. 1 Bar’ next to the away supporters entrance to Bloomfield, very family-orientated, where away fans were charged a ‘nominal entry fee’.
Obviously, with 606 shutting down at season-end, we will not be receiving requests from opposing fans for “..best away fans’ pub near ground..” etc., in the future.
Have I missed any, and/or are there corrections required above….?
