“I’ve created a monster..” said Wee Ollie yesterday.
But 16,000+ ‘Pool fans will say it’s the best ‘monster’ they’ve ever had or come across, and even if Blackpool do go down, whatever the outcome in the next month, you will not, by any stretch of the imagination, in our eyes at least,
be “..in the s**t” as you say.
What you will be, though, is possibly the greatest ever manager to grace Bloomfield Road.
Let me explain myself:
None of us thought we would reach the play-offs last season, never mind win the Final against Cardiff City – and for that alone, we have a lot to thank you for, Ollie –
never mind playing against the likes of the Liverpools, the Man. Uniteds, the Chelseas, the Arsenals –
in your first full season with us.
That in itself, considering all the constraints that you have had to bear, and those that have grasped the club, is nothing short of a miracle, and the greatest trip any fan from the lower regions of the Football League could ever be on or dream about.
For us ‘elder statesmen’ on here, it has put us back where we belong, which has evoked the great days of the 50s and 60s, something we thought we’d never see again in our lifetimes.
For the younger generations, who have never experienced such euphoria nor seen the club achieve such heights, especially after so many years in the doldrums, I can see it in their faces and in their demeanour at every match I go to.
You have made us proud to be 'Tangerines.'
For that, Ollie, we all will be eternally greatful.
We applaud your sentiments, and to an extent we agree, but I would say that our idea of a ‘monster’ in this instance is more in the vein of the likeable ‘Shrek’ of the movies than that of the Hydra.
You have given us all a belief, restored our confidence and nurtured faith in life once more….
Here’s to seeing us both together in the top tier again next season!
We have four games left, including two at home -
We can still do it.
YL.
p.s. Our son (who is a Liverpool fan) took our granddaughter (or was it the other way round?) to the game yesterday, and we all could see that he was pleasantly surprised at how the ‘Pool performed.
“One more point towards safety.”
