So the season is over and we must start again, the question is how many of the current team will stay around.
Gilks, Crainey, Vaughan look set to be leaving on a free. Adam on a transfer Harewood, Ormerod, Kingson, Carney, Rabs, Edwards released. DJ, GTF being headhunted and we must be strong to hold on to them Varney, Beattie, Kornelkio, Sbai, Puncheon loans up. Reid, Martin contracts need renewing
Leaves us with a core squad of
Eardley, Cathcart, Evatt, Baptiste, Southern, Selveste, Grandin, Phillips, Basham, Clarke, Eastham, Almond, Halstead. Hopefully DJ, GTF, Martin
A good core of a squad, Evatt has to be Captain for me. I feel we will need around 8-10 players to be signed in the summer. Loans, Free Signings and a few decent fees.
It is sad to see the break up of the greatest team i have ever seen grace Bloomfield road in my 30 year life span. However we will have new players to excite us and get Bloomfield road rocking.
Up the Pool.

Would love to keep Puncheon at Bloomers. Lets hope deals can be done. With Him GTF and DJ too we would have a great forward line up . Unlike a lot of other fans I would like to keep Gilks too. Not quite PL standard but easily good enough for the Championship.
I understand KO's caution in the crazy world of footy but isn't it about time we gave out some decent term contracts so we can stop all Ollie's hard work going to waste.
We need a good solid core of players that we can keep for the next 3 years even if we don't go back up next season. Lets use the Parachute payments to look at the longer term eh Karl!

I've brought this over from the "New Deals...." thread as it's more appropriate to this one........?
This was supposed to be the Close Season Article we’ve all been waiting for I suppose, but due to the unfortunate circumstances of the players' contracts signed as if we were still in the CCC....
According to Thursday's 'Gazette' (19th May) Wee Ollie is quoted - "I'm not saying saying who we've released - that will come out in good time...." and I believe that still stands?
Notwithstanding all the re-signings, here’s my idea of who would go, who could stay, and what we could do in order to build up the squad for next season – in the Prem/CCC. The main sticking point is that the majority of our squad have their contracts running out in the next month, so………
(1) LOANS:
Luke Varney (on loan from Derby County) BUY or RETAIN ON LOAN James Beattie (on loan from Rangers) GET RID Sala Sbai (on loan from Nimes) RETAIN ON LOAN Jason Puncheon (on loan from Southampton) BUY Sergei Kornilenko (on loan from Zenit SP) RELEASE Marlon Harewood (out on loan to Barnsley, dust up with IH, contract runs out 30/6/11) RETAIN ? Jason Euell * (out on loan to Doncaster, contract runs out 6/11) GET RID Ish Demontagnac * (out on loan to Chesterfield, contract runs out 6/11) RETAIN Rob Edwards (out on loan to Norwich, contract runs out 6/11- but re-signed) RETAIN Louis Almond(u-21) (out on loan to Barrow, contract runs out 6/11) RETAIN Ashley Eastham (u-21) (out on loan to Cheltenham, contract runs out but re-signed) RETAIN
(2) DEFINITELY LEAVING: (?)
Charlie Adam Will go either to Man.Unt, Spurs, or Liverpool….or the highest bidder. Paul Rachubka looked at by Arsenal, stayed only because South was being built. LET HIM GO Stephen Crainey wanted by Celtic and Leeds. David Vaughan Sunderland, Stoke & WBA target…or back to Wales?
(3) POSSIBLES ?
Ian Evatt (contract runs out 6/11 but re- signed) RETAIN Gary Taylor-Fletcher (c – 6/11) RETAIN Alex Baptiste (c - 6/13) RETAIN Craig Cathcart (c – 6/13) RETAIN Dudley Campbell (c – 6/12) RETAIN
(4) REMAINDER:
Keith Southern (contract runs out 6/11/renewed) RETAIN Neal Eardley (c – 6/11) RETAIN Brett Ormerod (c – 6/11) RETAIN Mark Halstead (u-21=can be played regardless of 25-man-squad, contract runs out 6/11) RETAIN Elliot Grandin (c - 6/12) RETAIN Chris Basham (c – 6/13) RETAIN Ludovic Sylvestre (c - 6/13) RETAIN Matthew Gilks (c – 6/11) RETAIN Matt Phillips (u-21) (c – 6/13) RETAIN Richard Kingson (c – 6/11) RETAIN David Carney (c – 6/11) RETAIN Stephen Husband (u-21) (c – 6/12) RETAIN Thomas Barkhuizen (u-21) ? RETAIN Liam Tomsett (u-21) ? RETAIN
(5) NOT IN 25-MAN SQUAD AND OVER 21: *
Danny Coid contract runs out 6/11 RELEASE Malaury Martin contract runs out 6/11 contract RELEASE Billy Clarke also r/o 6/11 RELEASE
(It will be noted that my preferences - in Capitals after the player - were made prior to those given new deals and other events of this week.)
First off, I would love to be a ‘fly on the wall’ when IH and KO get together to discuss the squad, ........."Wee Ollie’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ Lists……" who to release, and who to buy, for next season…then again, wouldn’t we all!
As you can see, I’ve selected 7 for ‘release’ or ‘get rid’, plus 4 defo leaving, so taking that into account, we need at least the same number coming the other way, but the 64,000 dollar question is – who can we get - at the right price, and would fit into our team ethos - to fill those gaps?
Go down or stay in the Prem - ? It is is unfortunately the former, so, personally, I believe Wee Ollie will set his sights low and concentrate on good First Division players with a couple of snips from Scotland or abroad, and if affordable, the CCC.
I know we have a bit of money, but not the financial clout to compete sensibly with the likes Birmingham, Villa, Wigan, Wolves, QPR, Forest or Leeds…..or do we?
It is yet unknown what ‘transfer pot’ IH will be given/has been given, either by Uncle Val or KO, or both, but I don’t see the latter sanctioning any £2million+ deals, any road…
With us having the worse-ever goals-against ratio in the Prem – 78 -- it is the defence we really need to start with, and my initial reaction would be to go for a goalkeeper – but Who?
Thoughts....?
YL.

As was pointed out at yesterdays game by butch Wilkins, its not the defences fault if everyone else is attacking! We have good defenders,a back four of Eards,Baps, evo and Crains is pretty solid but if everyone else is in the opposing penalty area life gets tough! For me the biggest thing is a keeper that commands his area and we dont have one,if we are going to carry on playing like we do (please)we need a keeper that isnt as reluctant as Gliks to come off his line,if he had been on the front foot he could have stopped their first goal yesterday, and thats not the first time I'v thought this. The idea of a keeper/sweeper is what we need, but for the life of me I cant think of one!!!!Answers on a postcard to ...........

I have no love of gilks for the simple reason i think he is flat footed too.
Yeni where did you get this snipet from?
Paul Rachubka looked at by Arsenal
Okay everybody get looking for some Keepers lol
I believe the reason Richard has been let go is because he is basically being held together by sticky tape

By too expensive what do we mean?If we are going to have a real go at getting back up a good keeper is essential and I for one wouldn't mind spending a fair bit of cash on one. Though if Charlie does go to OT then cash plus Keeper may be an option as they seem to have a fair few good ones who may be looking to get a game if as is mooted they are going to be spending a fortune to replace VDS

From the list of released goalkeepers only one name stands out for me Joe Murphy of Scunthorpe was very highly rated a couple of years ago, and it may be his release was part of a cost cutting measure. Whilst not wanting to shop at bargain basement, I think Ollie may work his magic on rebuilding his confidence, and we need at least 2 keepers as there is no way I want Gilks to stay

By too expensive i mean cant see us spending 2-5 million on a goalkeeper

Possible we might have to, 511, if that's the way forward, and back 'upstairs'.
Like John says, we have a good bunch of defenders, but it looks like we'll lose one or two of them as well.
So, all in all, I believe Wee Ollie has a massive re-constructuring job on his hands going by who is on the way out from reports going round (Vaughan > Sunderland, and those I've mentioned above, etc.).

I'd love them to start spending but I'll believe it when i see it. Oyston has never done what the fans think he should do but after last seen I've grow to respect him for that. Like I say I'd love to see him loosen the purse strings.

United haven't many keepers. They have Van der Sar, Kuszczak and Lindegaard, plus youngsters Amos and Johnstone.
Kuszczak i leaving on a free and Van der Sar is retiring but they reckon they are going to sign David der Gea next week maybe announcing it Monday.

Kuszczak will not come to Blackpool he will be on at least 20k a week at Utd and will be snapped up by someone like Wolves.

I think we might all get a this year as I believe the purse strings might get a bit looser now, not to the tune of 20,000 a week but better than the previous season in the championship.

This is taken from the "Mirror" so comes with a believe it or not warning. Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is rewarding relegated stars Ian Evatt, Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Brett Ormerod with new deals - on ‘Premier League’ money. The trio were due to take a cut in their deals when they went down to the Championship, but Holloway has pushed their case and they will now get the terms they were on in the top flight. Holloway argued their case with the Seasiders money-men and the gesture has been gratefully accepted by the trio as the manager tries to keep his squad together. I do hope it's true, if so shows a bit of the ambition we have been talking about.
