12 JUNE 1971, Blackpool played in the final of the Anglo Italian cup and after being 1-0 down, equalised with a John Craven goal and in extra time and a brilliant goal from Mickey Burns clinched the game for the Pool. To win that game after being beaten at home by Manchester u on the last day of the season, to have the long standing captain Jimmy Armfield retire, be relegated to the 2nd division and then go to Italy 6 weeks later in temps of 80+def F.and beat a team at the top or thereabouts in the Italian 1st div, took some determination and guts. How we never bounced back up to the top division the following season I will never know with that team of, Burridge, Hatton, Bentley, Ainscow, Alcoclk, Suddaby, Burns, Green(left that summer), Dyson replaced him, Craven, Suddick, Hutchinson.

History could have (sort of) repeated itself if it weren't for a certain London club.
