was going to say halfway through reading it why did he just not cross over the border but then to be returned to camp lol.
wonder if he is the only POW to escape and be returned back to the camp by his ow side?
but to go on and fly over vietnam as well must have been some pilot, wonder if he ever got his citizenship back of the USA

I thought it was an unbelievable story, you would have thought that they would have all up sticks and left to go north, bloody easier than from stalag ? The Americans who were neutral for the first couple of years could not knowingly let their citizens take part so had no choice until they too became involved and yes all those that returned regained citizanship.

I believe he was the only person to be returned to a POW camp, but I'll stand to be corrected, Sher. An interesting but believable tale Whit - I vaguely remember something of that nature a good few years ago - same one possibly. One never fails to be surprised at what pops up nowadays from both Wars. YL. p.s. Now, was that what what started Germany's footie wins or was it the Christmas Truce one in 1914?
