We have dropped down from the top division three times since I began watching the Pool with the last occassion probably being the most important. We came down in 71 and for the next 6 years we came between 5th and 7th position with one year at 10th, not a bad record. The following year was going well with Hatton scoring a fair few goals and then the Allan Brown episode sent us into free fall. We went down to division three and I am sure that one incident set us up for our worst period in our history. I have seen the likes of Matthews, Johnstone, Ball, Hughes, Hatton, Green and many more leave or retire and wondered just like this summer, how will we get on, well we did and we will, after all we know very little of the intakes, let alone see them play. Out of interest would you take 5th, 6th or 7th for the next three years, like last time, I know I would, perhaps history does repeat itself, all I know is that when we came down we built up a fantastic squad over the next few years and we will do it again, I am sure.

I think your right Whit its clear that ollie is building a squad for the future and lets face it he has not really had chance to do that yet. I am more than convinced the best is yet to come. anyone for promotion and FA cup win in the next 3 years lol

I think he is building a squad that should challenge for promotion back to the EPL next season or 2013, hence the standard 2 year contracts being offered with a 3rd year option. Karl is being patient with Ollie and giving him the room he deserves and we should do the same. I don't expect miracles and think we might have a bumpy ride for a few months, as we have so many new faces, but I hope all will come good after that and we will be pushing for a play off place. If we make it then we will have the whole of the UK (except PNE of course) wanting us to win promotion again. We've all had a taste and I only hope to be able to visit the best grounds again in Tangerine. I'm sure they will want us back too. Already planning a weekend trip to the Hammers as they will be the team to beat this season.
Feel the buzz yet?
