Scotland striker David Goodwillie is set to stand trial later this year charged with assault.
The former Dundee United player is accused of repeatedly punching and kicking John Friel on the head and body in Glasgow's Queen Street in November.
The 22-year-old, who now plays for Blackburn Rovers, submitted a not guilty plea by letter at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
The player's trial is due to take place in October.
Goodwillie made his competitive debut in December 2005 with Dundee United, appearing as a late substitute against Rangers at Ibrox.
He has represented Scotland at all international youth levels since appearing in 2005 and received his first call-up for the senior team in November last year.
Earlier this month, Goodwillie signed a four-year deal with Blackburn Rovers and scored his first goal for the team against Kilmarnock.
