I have reached the only logical conclusion that one can reach:
Steve Canavan of the Blackpool Gazette must be related to Keith Southern.
There is simply no other explanation.
Southern was awarded the star man of the Palace match by Canavan. I didn't go to Selhurst Park but I did watch the entire match in the Tavern at the Mill. Southern had two simply woeful shots in the match. The first was scuffed so badly that it was heading out for a throw in and the second was a glorious opportunity that was sliced high and wide from the edge of the six yard box.
Other than that, Southern contributed his usual array of misplaced passes and squandering of possession as well as a few sideways and backwards passes over a maximum distance of six yards.
All in all he had a dismal game and how anyone could think that he was the best Blackpool player on show is quite simply beyond the realms of my comprehension.
The Gazette always awards Southern a minimum of 8 out of 10 for his continued inept performances and furthermore there is a back page headline at least once a week without fail where Southern is is the feature of the story.
I defy anyone else to offer an other explanation other than that Southern and Canavan are related.

I have to agree the only things I can remeber him doing is missing that shot and being hit in the face with the ball. I rate Southern as a DM but he wasn't star man this weekend

Isaid it in a previous post on the Palace game, Keith is a defensive midfielder, end of , he is not a go forward player and he never will be, but having said that i would have Southern in the team ahead of Fergie, who also is a DM. I have Southern down for MOM in the Ipswich game Ted!

I went to the game and for me he was not one of those up for consideration for man of the match. Baps, Crainey and Gilks would have been in the frame for me, with Baps winning hands down, not for his goal but for his all round approach to the game. The first half was one of the best Pool dominated performances for a very long time, just a pity we didn't take advantage of some of the chances we created and only in the 2nd half when they brought on Zaha and Murray did the game change. Like the previous week at Brighton, the substitutions had an impact, unlike Brighton it was the other way round at Palace. Just one point for Ted, yes while with Southern you point out his shooting and passing ability is weak, he does however get in the face of the opposition and his strength is in his tackling and breaks down many opposition advances.

Actually listen to what you said this time, Ted, cos, despite your known views, you have been very generous with your praise at the end of last season and early this
I think Whit is right, he is an excellent defensive Mid at this level, but, because this is also Fergie's role, I guess Ollie is pushing him to get forward when he can. Running with two defensive mids is normal for us, seem to remember DV had the most tackles in the Prem for much of last season. Gnasher has not got his attacking skill, though, and I have yet to see whether Fergie has either. Still think KS will get the odd goal if he keeps going forward, and his passion and appetite for hard work will keep the others going around him. It has also been very obvious that the opposition are well briefed on him, they sure look to offload quick when he is on the horizon.
Moving forward, Charlie was allowed to develop because Keith and Vaughnie did the hard stuff to make him time. Ollie is under pressure to deliver every game, but I'd love to see one of our new boys given a chance to shine in the passing mid role, protected by Gnasher and Fergie.

Feel sorry for keith in sme respect because its not his game or role, like the others have said i feel he should be sat in the middle being nasty to any one that enters his radar lol.
Personally i would like to see ferguson dropped for a game and bruna and sylvest start with keith

I don´t fully agree with you Ted. I think that Keith does what he does very well. If it isn´t right for the team then hopefully Ollie will do his job and replace him. IOWT. But I respect your views at least they are not nasty and misplaced.

I would love Southern to prove me wrong but I just think that it is time for Sylvestre to be given a run in the side. With Ferguson there Southern is surplus to requirements and we need someone desperately who can create and knock a few goals in as Charlie Adam did so wonderfully well.

The difference for me this season is that we are lacking a midfield player who runs at defences and then distributes the ball forward rather than sideways. Both Adam and Vaughan were masters at it.The midfield charging forward with 3 strikers up front terrefied some top notch defenders in the PL and was hugely entertaining Southern has got to be one of the most improved players over the last two years but he is not ( in a million years) a play maker. More of a ball getter.Fergie has more potential in this role but needs time to understand the system better and shake off his defensive habits. To my mind Sylvestre waits for the ball rather than going to get it but has the skill to distribute and beat players. Somewhere in there a system will be born and eventually something will just click. If we can then land another out and out striker...happy days.
Would like to see Bruna and Matty have a go but they will need some support from more experienced players for a while yet.
