Pleasantly surprised, and delighted (if I may say such a 'pansy' word) when I turned to the inside back pages of yesterday's 'Gazette' - all (but one) of my wrestling heroes on the one page! How I relived the good old days of yesterday-year when I read the article of this post's headline. Mick McManus, Jackie Pallo, the Faulkner-Royal tag team, Steve Logan, Ricky Starr, Catsweazle, Giant Haystacks, et al, but my favourite was, of course, wee Les Kellett, who more often than not, left his opponents grasping thin air as he shimmied around the ring. He was to me always the underdog, but his rivals always seemed to end up in a heap. “Pure comedy” as SS states, and rightly so. Though I wonder why 'Big Daddy' was left out – lack of space? None of this American (fake) rubbish – 'WWT?' or whatever – this was proper wrestling to all us Saturday afternoon fans glued to the box before the footie results came up. And before pool (as in the snooker- type game) became as fashionable as it is now. Anyone else remember them, and others? YL.

Well Yeni, that brought back a few memories. First off the commentator Kent Walton who made it all so special, great guy, sorry to hear he passed away short time ago. As for the stars, do you remember Kendo Nnagasaki (not sure about spelling) the guy with the mask, Mike Marino and yes Shirley Crabtree (Big Daddy). Don't know if you were aware but Margaret Thatcher asked Big Daddy for some autographed photos, the Duke of Edinburgh thought Jonny Kwango's head butting was superb and the Queen watched on tv so Richard Crossman stated in his diaries. Enjoy the game against Ipswich.

When I read the OP, I was thinking of the Japanese bloke, an lo and behold, named below, Kendo Nagasaki, brilliant. Kung Fu must have just about been on the Telly, too.
Remember going with my Grampie one Saturday to some other relative somewhere behind the Derby Baths, and seeing it for the first time.
I used to think it was all real ;D
Giant Haystacks v Big Daddy, pure drama, don't ever remember BD losing
Innocent days

My sister went to the wrestling at the tower in the mid sixties. One of the wrestlers was so dirty that they climbed into the ring and had a go at him. He held my sister by the hair so her friend hit him with her shoe. When the show was over, people were asking them how much they had been paid to do that. I can assure you it was completely off the cuff.
Yeni, Les kellett was my favourite as well. The wife and I were talking about all those caracters last week. They really were great days and my favourite football club weren´t too bad either. Thanks for those memories. UTMP.

Hi Yeni, yes thought I might come up when the south-east corner is completed, but might have to have a re-think on that one, probably the Forest game, that should be lively.

Forest game - 22nd October a possibility? I'll have to keep my diary and oracle clear then.
yes, it will probably be a contentious game, given the history of the two clubs. (play-offs spring to mind and DJ's two goals!)
YL.
