Good luck David
Australia defender David Carney has signed with Spanish second division club AD Alcorcon on a one-year deal after succesfully passing a medical in Madrid on Thursday.
Carney, who has overcome a debilitating shoulder injury which required delicate reconstructive surgery six months ago, came close to joining Nottingham Forest and West Ham after his contract at Blackpool expired.
But the man who late last month was identified by Socceroos assistant coach Aurelio Vidmar as a major loss to the national team, has expressed his relief at being able to resume his career in Spain, with his new club perched tenth in the Segunda Division.
Carney, who expects to make his debut next weekend as he awaits his international clearance, said: "It's been a frustrating time with the injury but hopefully that's behind me now and I can get on with playing football.
"Everybody knows about the quality of football in Spain so I'm really excited to be here.
“This move gives me the opportunity to get back playing following my operation so hopefully once I'm match fit I can put together a consistent run of games throughout the season.
“The club is relatively small but they have some excellent players and a new owner whose ambition is very impressive.
"When you are out for a while, it's all about proving your fitness again so this is a perfect place for me to do that.
"The shoulder has been an issue for a few years which has restricted my game time at each of the clubs I've been at.
“I should have really had the re-con last summer but I desperately wanted to play in the World Cup so it got delayed until April this year.
