Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish snubbed any speculation that Barry Bannan could leave the club to head in Manchester United’s direction. Despite Alex Ferguson’s interest in the young midfielder, Villa’s boss is not thinking about letting him go to Old Trafford until he has at least become a regular first-teamer for Villa. Interest coming from United appeared after the star midfielder had some excellent appearances for the Villa Park side this season as well as some stunning performances for Scotland, including a Man Of The Match trophy against Lithuania. “Let’s not go overboard and put too much pressure on the kid with the Manchester United stuff and that,” said McLeish. “He will want to cement his place permanently in the Villa team before anything else. “He did very well in the second half at QPR. Like everyone else he was afflicted with a lack of a touch and passing in the first half. All of a sudden he came alive in the second half… that is what he is capable of.” www.footylatest.com/mcleish-says-man-utd-cant-have-barry-bannan-yet/24024

Would like to think we as a club played some part in his career, thought he settled in and played very well for us, will never forget his thump against the bar which landed on the goal line and his superb goal minutes later at Coventry. He reminded me of a very good Pool player some years ago, now let me think, who was that.
