Caught your attention with that heading, didn't I? But it's true. Whilst in Alanya last month, we (me, my wife and her best mate, and two friends who we have known in Alanya since 2004) went out for the night (Tuesday 20th to be precise) – no, not on a pub crawl, I hasten to add - but a musical evening at the 'Albatross' bar/restaurant in Obagul, which is not that far a walk from our apartments. The duo providing the music – “Donald & Kath'” who were there for the season, performed a wide range of 60s to 80s stuff, which had the place rockin' and a buffet was also laid on. As per, the establishment had a wide-screen TV, which was showing the Fener-Manisaspor league game, watched by the locals. It didn't take me long to notice that it seemed to be showing only females in the crowd and I asked the head honcho why that was, his reply being that the males caused so much trouble at games TV wasn't showing them. I thought fair enough, but was still of the mind that the fellahs were there, even though the racket these females made was really ear-piercing. (Not forgetting that there were some real crackers amongst that crowd). I was trawling the 'net this evening for something else and came upon this article relating to said game: bikyamasr.com/43054/turkish-football-federation-bans-male-fans-from-match/My understanding was that the 'head honcho' couldn't put it into English exactly what was going on for that match but the press story explains it all. YL.

Considering that this was only the third match of the season (which started on 12/10) and second home game, I think you could be right there. eh? Here's another link to that match www.goal.com/en/news/467/turkey/2011/09/21/2675938/forty-one-thousand-women-and-children-attend-fenerbahce Though the Þükrü Saracoðlu holds 52,000+, even with that available capacity Fener have the highest average gate of the SUL teams, which, incidently, is below that of Werner Bremen in Germany, so I would summise that the av is around 38,000 per match. I'll stand corrected on that. The Turkish sites I'm on are very informative about everything but the gates.... Istanbul BB have the biggest ground capacity with 80,090, which is generally used for internationals, yet they have a less than half empty stad most games. The first home game, against Orduspor, was behind closed doors from what I can gather. Fener are top of the TFF with one loss in 6 matches - 16 points - with Gala in third, three points behind. Welcome to Hell.YL.

Yes, Louise: the match was on the twentieth of September, whilst we were in Alanya that month, but the point I'm making is that as I stated in the OP, I didn't think it untoward what the 'head honcho' had said to me, which was not strictly correct - maybe he didn't know the English for 'banned from game(s)' Apart from the fact that nothing had been said in the British press about it that I have seen.
