Don't know about you guys but I feel robbed today but strangely upbeat after a great display
The second half performance deserved a couple of goals at least and at last we seem to be clicking in to gear. Another day and my 3-1 prediction would have been about right.
Thought Forest were strong, physical and direct and I'm glad I don't watch that every week.
positives Great defensively with Baps my MOM. Ince getting better and better Macca looked the biz Decent rhythm and pace plenty of chances. Crowd in better spirits
Negs
Still too aerial for my liking.. We gave away too much possession from passing back to Gilks who thumped it up the pitch. Would like to see more stuff on the ground from the back against teams like this.
Ref....too soft early on.
All in all a good display and we didn't get what we deserved but thats footy for you!

Have to agree with you there, Pete. Against a team like Forest, who have got some big guys at the back, why in tarnation do we always lump it up in the air? (espec. as our lads are on the dimitive side in comparision). As you say - "...on the ground...". No, this is not a cry for the return of Big Ben Burgess !!!!!!To be honest, I was surprised that Ince - what a player - was taken off: Injured or what? He was really getting into his stride at that point and if we were going to score, he was needed on the pitch. Wee Mac also put in a good shift, and if we can hang onto him, Ince, and Shev, for a few years, we'll do well. The back four, as per, had their usual game, Baps and Crainey tried their utmost, but Ince MoM for me. Yes, we had a few chances which should have been taken, if we didn't snatch at the ball so often and so quickly. It's against teams like Forest (bottom half) that we need to beat h and a, and draw away with those above us. Still, 11th place, 19 points from 13 games ain't all that bad, we wuz robbed is a good summing up. Where were we at this stage in our promotion season? But, as all our headmasters said - 'till room for improvement'. Crowd 13,200+ very vocal today. Do we have two drummers - one each in North and South? YL.

Yeni,
Position 5th just beaten Sheff U 3-0 (13TH GAME) 20 OCTOBER 2009 Gilks Seip Eardley Baps Crainey JET Demontagnac Banguira Omerod Euell GTF
Subs Rabs Adam Southern Bouazza Evatt Vaughan.
I don't think we were robbed, Phillips missed two good opportunities and Ince was very unlucky. We messed up once again on set peices, their first a corner and later we were lucky not to hand them another one from a corner when Chambers headed just past the post.

How many of that team are still with us, eh, Whit?
8 out of 17 isn't bad.

I think it's going to be like this for much of the season. If we're honest, we have got points when maybe we shouldn't, and yesterday, if KP had got his easier ones ( the one he scored was a beauty, wasn't it?), or young Tom had put it 4 inches to the left, we'd have been home and dry.
Great to see attacking footy again, agree about too much hoofball, I guess because we haven't got the midfield which can deliver the quick killer pass.
I think the ref was trying to keep the game going early on by not booking Forrest's players for some pretty poor challenges. It came home to roost later on where he should have been sending at least three of them off, if he had booked earlier.
Still, definite signs of improvement, more players starting to impress, the glass is half full

Well I waited for a while before I made any comments.
I watched the game yesterday with some friends and it would appear that we were at a different game.
The first 20 mins I thought it was a Sunday football afternoon special, the ball had wings on it. It came down with snow on it more often than landed on a player.
Then there was 5-10 mins when we actually passed the ball into spaces and players actually moved around, I thought this was the start.
Of course I was wrong, along came the forest goal and the rest of the first half.
I agree in the second half there was a slight improvement and it was obvious that when we passed the ball and used the width of the pitch we could actually create chances.
The remainder of the game went to the plan of the Forest manager, squeese, play it tight, back in numbers etc...
As for the team on the pitch there is little understanding in the centre of the park, Fergie was absent for the majority of the game.
Shel runs around like a lost chicken with no direction or purpose, probably attempting to make up for the short comings of his teammates.
GTF, was he on the pitch?
I could go on naming players but it wont solve the issues facing the IH.
I have to agree that KP is a hard worker and on another day may have scored again but was limited by the continued high ball.
One bright area was Ince who when given the ball can run at players, he was unlucky and perhaps a little more thought into the final ball may bring other players into the game a bit more.
Whilst this is only my opinion it was generally shared by the other people watching the game and even the commentators.
I do hope that people are right when they say its work in progress as I thought the passing was better at Hull than yesterday.

Look, I don't want to spoil anyone's Sunday but we have to look at the situation as it is. We lost 3 very influential players, plus Varney and Puncheon and if you think even with the best will in the world and spending millions at the same time would have made up for those guys that left, I am afraid you are wrong. Two years ago we started the season with players such as Vaughan who at first when he came to us from the Spanish outfit was just a squad player, not until he got into a routine with Charlie and the Ollie influence did he develop into such a good midfielder. Others we had playing at the time included Nardiello, Edwards, JET, Bangura, Demon, Euell, Burgess and Bauazza. We ended the season with DJ, Bannon and Dobey, in other words it took Ollie a bloody long time well after Xmas to find the team that at the end was good enough to make the play off final. Now filling the gaps that were created was going to happen one or two ways, option one was to try and buy some quality players and spend millions or option two entice a fair sample of players with little spent who had either come to the end of their contracts or were very close to the end. The advantage of a lot of players coming in, even without the reserve team meant it gave Ollie a "choice", but also meant a lot of experiementing as well. Getting the Ollie XI may take some time, but my greatest fear from the start of the season which I have bored you to death in the past has been the midfield position, to me a greater problem than the striker situation. Whatever you may think I am sure we have come to realaise just how much Charlie and David did in the midfield, the creative on the the floor passing that wowed even the Premiership managers, they were never going to be easily replaced and by the heck we are missing this combination at the moment. Even DJ, missing him as I do, came back when necessary, held the ball up was a terrier chasing whenever the opportunity arose, these players don't grow on trees we will just have to stay calm and wait a little longer. We need to get the passing going again from midfield and feed the likes of Ince and McManaman (while we have him), who have skill and pace. We needed Evo yesterday as on several occasions with the tall guys that Forest had we were beaten on corners a number of times, I know things didn't go to plan at the Boleyn last week but my feeling is that if something goes wrong, make a statement then put it behind us and go on from there. There were, after all times when Charlie got it wrong but we soon forgave him, players are human and we sometimes look for the easy option. Give it time, it will come right, Ollie will just have to tinker a tad more. Goodbye Dubai, hear from you next week no doubt after the Burnley do, just try and stay positive and cool of course.

You are right to a degree. What we need is the passing ala Hull to move forward, with the intent to give to the forwards to attack goal. In a way it's a shame Shelvey did so well on his debut, I think we were all seeing him as our new CA, maybe the pressure on him is too much.
The one huge difference up front relates to building the attack round KP. He is a brill poacher, an instinctive striker, who is always in and around the box. One reason we used to be so good was all the front three drifted in and out, to either side, and back to mid. We are now pretty predictable, making man marking far easier.

Well summed up Whit.
Another difference in the Championship to the Prem is the lack of space given in Midfield and generally a more compact midfield. It's why hoofball works quite well for certain teams.
We just need to adapt our midfield style to be more expansive and physical. Knasher /Shelvey perhaps? The diagonal ball ,which worked so well with Charlie and Varney especially, just hasn't clicked yet....but it will....and with Ince or Matty on the receiving end then happy days.

Enjoyed the game and did not feel to down after match but just a couple of things can we have evo back if he is not carrying a knock so baps can go back to right back as eards looks out of touch and GTF looks knackered.
Its going to be a silly season and more tight for top 6 than previous seasons so all we can do is get behind the lads and keep plugging away and it will all click by christmas its not a sprint but a marathon.
Lets try something different in midfield is my only other comment as i am still not convinced about fergusons role?

Whit, my apologies if my view of the game differs from you, I will be sure not to post anything different, well at least until after the Burnley game.
People see black and white in different shades, what I saw yesterday is reflected in my comments. I disagree that to refer to players from last season can be used as an excuse to why we are unable to pass a ball to feet.
Perhaps I am too old to understand the modern game and its true that I dont get to see the games in real time like most of you do on this site.
It would appear that there are issues in the midfield that require resolving, this has been apparent for several games and the 3 points against Doncaster only papered over the cracks.
Lets hope IH does find a solution or another gem from somewhere and its true its only October so there is time on our side.
Dont forget we could be Leicester right now, millions spent and nothing to show although there is nothing wrong with having high expectations.

The whole idea is that we all call it as i see it, you will see things on the TV that we don't at the ground. we all know midfield is a area that needs improving and tinkering with, just as long as people stop comparing it with the midfield of the last 2 years, because that is gone now.

Nothing wrong with having high expectations Dubai, no apology necessary, but if you had been at the Boleyn the week before and Portsmouth back in September, you would realise how much improved they were yesterday, sometimes the result dosn't go the way the match was played, but believe me yesterday was better. Just my opinion like. Two years ago we lost at home to Barnsley 1-2, we only had 9 more points than at present and had played 6 more matches, so start getting your leave in early for May we just might be in London for the big one. Just as a matter of interest I appreciate other peoples point of view particularly a football match, we do see things in various shades, suppose that's what makes life so interesting.

Quite right, this league is wide open and frankly there is nothing below eigth in the PL that would really worry me either. We could take points off all of them right now. Still recon we are better than Blackburn, Wolves and Wigan Not saying we are ready for it yet but we can easily make the play offs this season and it really is there for the taking. The Championship is a different style to what most of our new signings are used to but they will get there. Expect a good run around Xmas

In view of the general opinion that yesterday was a good performance compared to the previous games then I will agree to disagree.
I am forced to surf the web to find highlights and read reports that may not reflect the game as a whole and only the goals scored.
However, I was disturbed at the standard shown by prof players, at our considerable expense, and I am trust the optimism I read will transfer into playing quality sooner rather than later.
