Sheffield Wednesday, one of the oldest professional clubs in the world, three-times winners of the Competition in which we are playing against them this Saturday – the FA Cup.
Managed by Gary Megson, they are hovering around 3rd place in League Division 1, after a run of only one defeat in their last six games, home and away, including a one-nil win against West Ham in the last round.
They knocked us out of the Carling on penalties back in August, when Eastham was sent off.
The 'Pool team that day was: Halstead Eardley Clarke Sylvestre Basham (sub by Llera) Hill Eastham Sutherland (Bruna) Martinez Harris and Ince (Barkhuizen).
How different will this weekend's team be from then?
Apparently, the Owls are down to the bare bones, defensively, their latest woe being Daniel Jones who was stretchered off in their last game, and although Reda Johnson and Rob Jones have niggles; Megson has admitted several injury worries, but refused to be specific, The club has no suspension problems.
Clinton Morrison is likely to play, as is JJ, who is in top form, though Gerry Madine is their top scorer, and Llera, who was signed on a free from Blackpool this month, also in contention for a place in their starting line-up.
All 2,200 away tickets are sold with no more being allocated, and none for sale to visiting fans on the day, with just over 650 tickets in the East Stand remaining for home fans.
Looks like there's 'Cup Fever' in Blackpool this week.
Latest betting? 4/5 and 8/11 Blackpool to win, Wednesday are 10/3, 7/2, and 15/4, depending upon with whom you lay a bet.
The draw? Don't even think about it!
Owls comments...
“We get a tinpot club away from home, eminently losable and small payday for us - they get a massive travelling support to swell their coffers and anteam that is still developing”
“...but it does gives us a reasonable chance to get to round 5 and also lets not get too downbeat about it because we've won on our last two visits to Bloomfield road and our club is much more bigger than them.”
“..terrible draw as usual. tin pot club that will probably beat us.”
More news will be promulgated as and when......
