This time two seasons ago, we were in seventh place in the CCC, on 40 points from 27 games, won 10, drawn 10, lost 7, goals 43-33, and we went up to the Prem. via the play-offs.
(something PNE haven't done, despite the number of times (9?) they've been in the play-offs, but I disgress...)
'Pool went on a good run in the League from then until the season end where we won 9, drew 3, and lost 7,
culminating in that Wembley P/O Final.
the teams above us then being -
Newcastle56 points
Forest 52p,
West Brom 50p
Cardiff 45p
Swansea 42p
and Sheffield United on 41 points.
Today, where are we?
Seventh again, having lost only one in the last eight, but with slightly better stats than last time....
P27 W11 D9 L7 43-34 on 42 points.
and who are above us today?
West Ham on top with 53 points
Southampton 50p
Cardiff 49p
Middlesbro' 45p
Hull 45p
and Brum on 43 points.
With 10 homes and 9 away games yet to be played -
can we do it again?
Looking at those forthcoming games, those at home are all winable, even against West Ham and Southampton, but it's the aways we have to watch.
First up next month, Cardiff City, (the only ones from that season, in 'the zone', and no doubt out to extract revenge in any way they can), then there's Derby and Reading in March who will have something to prove,
but I believe April will be the deciding month,
with away games at Watford, Forest, and Millwall, all of whom may still be in or near the drop zone, and scrapping for survival, so 'beware!'
Obviously we cannot write off any team in the CCC, but I believe we can just do it, play-offs at the worse, based on recent results, and if we keep up the momentum and forward-thinking.
