During the coms last night of the match, the pitch was mentioned more than a few times and I think on here by a poster earlier. I was looking at one of our football teams down here, they were once in the football league until they ran into financial problems...Maidstone United, remember seeing us play them when they ground shared at Dartford a few years back. They have reformed and are in the Ryman league and are having a new stadium built by the river in Maidstone and are having a 3G synthetic pitch laid costing £500,000 so that as well as the first team playing on it, 30 community teams will play and it will be hired out to other clubs. Training will be undertaken on it too, maintanance costs are low and this new form of sythentic grass looks and feels the real thing. Moulded or rubber studs can be worn and to all intense and purposes is far far better than the older models. I understand the football league clubs are debating whether to allow the use of these again, at a meeting on feb 16th. Should be interesting. would help us out a lot re training if 1, it gets the go ahead and 2. we as a club go for it.

We seem to stuggle every year with our pitch. is it down to the weather, sea air , too much wind. I have no idea. do we know who is our groundsman is ?

I think his name is Karl Oyston, or something like that.

I believe there are a couple of lower league teams (divs 1,2+3) North of the Border have it, or are firmly considering having it laid. Mind you, how could you really explain to your missus - "I burnt me bum on the pitch" Karl spend half a million - he'd have an apoplexy!

The problem with the pitch is they took all the sand out when they moved it a few feet about 4 years ago. till then it was a good mixture and while tending to go thread bare by the end of a season it cut up a lot less.
some clubs are already using a system from abroad where 4% is plastic grass think barca have one

It is a composition of sand, grass, rubber and another item I can't remember, meat pies I think.

Yes, you're right there, 511.
I remember reading about him in the 'Gazette' the season we went upstairs - Burnett, Burgess, or something.

My 'Pool webcam seems to be stuck at 8th September 2010 - glorious sunshine and the grass looks lovely and fresh and green. ( it's 19:03 hours and pitch-black outside, actually!!) Has anyone got an up-to-date link to the 'cam.....? Thanks.
