Not a good night, listened to the match but would appreciate a comment from someone who attended, even if you went and feel a bit down, it may help to get things of your chest so to speak.

Still painful and somewhat lost for words really after last night. What i am struggling to get my head round is the simple fact we did not pepper the goal with shots after green was sent off.
Of all the times it called for direct football and we still try and work or way into the box at one point we where playing 3-2-5 and it did not look great from the south stand as for the third goal i am still mad at how we went from a goal kick to a corner which they scored from, Maybe somebody can tell me how that happened as i am sat right behind goal and could not see anybody getting a touch on the cross.
But sadly once again we seem to be unable to defend set pieces and i had to witness once again big sam dancing on the touchline grrrrrrrrrrrr

Really got to me last night, I guess the realisations came pouring into the conscious brain.
The game, we didn't pick up their strikers drifting onto crosses, and that cost us 2 goals. We weren't getting to balls fast enough, they started off wanting it far more, and it showed. Towards the end of the first when we did get there faster, we looked far more of a threat, at least keeping control of the ball. Felt a bit sorry for LulLu, as he was constantly holding the ball and passing to nobody, to be fair, there darned well should have been someone running onto balls in the corner to get crosses in.When KP scored, I genuinely thought we would come out in the second and beat them.
Second half, not a fast start but getting to balls first, winning headers, using this back header trick to release wingers. Matty was quiet, maybe with KP and Beds on by then, he had to stay wide, and his strength is cutting inside. Everyone around me was bellowing at them to go direct and shoot, too much passing across the box and not into it.
Not even the most hardcore ammers fan can complain about the sending off, I wish the rule was automatic penalty if he is last man, even though it is outside the area. Tiny replacement goalie, rubbing our hands with glee. Only the free kick was well over, CA would have eaten that alive. Agreed about naive tactics, we should have been pinging everything at him from within 30 yards.
Then they broke away and scored again, was that the corner that wasn't or was that the last one? As they had taken a striker off to bring the goalie on, perfectly reasonable to use the blunderbus Evo tactic. However, instead of in the middle to fight in the box alongside Beds, because KP was also central, he ended up as a left winger. There was a moment where Dicko did the classic run into the defence onto a ball from Evo, pushed in and played it back, but Evo isn't a striker and wasn't expecting it.
I think WH will do OK in the Prem, for all the reasons I hated some bits of it last year. Lost count of the number of times they got away with using the hand to deflect the ball away. There was one nailed on penalty in the second half directly below us, Beds and Evo were going mentall at the ref, the WH player was booked, but no penalty. The fouling of our players not picked up by ref or lino, BF had an arm round his neck as he tried to get to a ball. The time wasting from about 45 minutes on, only right at the death did they get a booking, should have been 20 mins of added on time. And the hoofball is effective, but not the style of football I would pay to watch.
Players : thought Fleck is not up to this level yet, frightened little rabbit in the first half, we were amazed he hadn't been subbed rather than Bash ( maybe injured?) Gilks, Baps and Crains OK, Cathy pretty good ( haven't seen any videos to see hwo was at fault picking up strikers for the first two), Evo looks to be carrying an injury to me, he isn't running freely. BF OK, but hadn't got the spark last night, Sylvo bullied out of it, good workrate, though. Dicko could be a star yet, pxssed myself when he outjumped one of those huge defenders!
Right, this is the bit I'll get slaughtered for !!!!!
KP on for long periods wrecks our planned game, and yes, I know he was the only one who scored. The plan relies on mobile forwards interchanging, working their socks off, tackling around the box and back, and he simply doesn't, he is used to dropping off, making space to get a crack or pass in, and it leaves us a man short up front, the contrast with DJ couldn't be greater. I didn't see him make one tackle. If you are going to play him, Beds and Evo up front, Matty and a.n. other need to be forward midfielders, leaving BF to hold it together on his own, and relying on the FB's to get up. Against a hoofball team, that is suicide.
I like Beds, he certainly is miles above last year's big unit Beatty, given gametime he will get better. BUT it is back to the KP problem, the wide men are then static, not interchanging, and so easier to pick up.
I don't think we are good enough to compete in the Prem yet, we need the creative forward midfielder to attack the box, pass over the top, and lift heads which are back to going down too easily. And we need someone really concentrating on deadballs, we had several opportunities that last year we would have hoped for a 50% strike rate, but none were even close.
Sorry, pretty negative from me for once, but I'm sure Ollie saw loads more stuff to deal with, and I'm sure he will. I think he is still short one seriously creative fighting bolshy midfielder.
Edited to add: I can understand people leaving early, but hated to hear Pool fans booing the team at the end.

Good to thear your thoughts on the game, thanks guys. We are getting very close to the point that we reached two seasons ago when finaly Ollie found his ideal 1st XI, when that happened we entered into a consistant spell of good football. This season we have had to many lows, Hammers x 2, Burnley , Brum, Leicester but we have also had magnificant wins over Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol . Fourteen games to go, all of them hard, those above us want promotion just like us, those below down in the bottom 8 fighting for survival and a number of these clubs will no doubt go on a run.
If we could just find a little more consistancy, no, I am not goint to say it, just trust in Ollie and the team.

I agree with you yeold about KP and what annoys me more than anything is if he is going to start we have to get the ball into the area its that simple really.
in the first half we had to crosses into their box that was the sum total one played by evo went right across the penalty area with not a tangerine shirt in sight and the second after KP had come on we scored from if you feed KP he will score.
and i know ted is not going to like this but we do need old gnashers in the middle with ferguson he gives us some bite

Said exactly that about Keith to the blokes sat next to me before the teams were announced, we needed someone to aid the defence and break their mid when they pushed up

OK I was at the game and pretty much agree with all the above. Couple of things though. Firstly I think we were suffering a lack of confidence after the Everton Game, The scoreline in no way reflected the game, the linesman and ref were shocking, and finally, although I hate to admit it, Allerdice had a better game plan and his team were better organised.
What annoys me more than anything is that we can beat teams like this if we could only stop giving the ball away too easily and defend set pieces better. We also need to get tougher mentaly and physicaly.
If we are brutally honest we haven't been playing that well recently and got out of jail against teams we should dominate. When we come across teams like WHU and Birmingham we can't handle it. We also need to accept that we are still a work in progress.
I hated watching WHU but they will get promoted. Simply awful tactics of killing decent football but it is effective, gets you points, and we saw it quite a lot last year.
The big question now is will we fall away from a promotion push or is there still time to fulfil the potential we know is there. Personally I think we are 12 months away but would love to be proved wrong.
Sorry if that was a bit glum but it fits my mood today.

I'm beyond wondering to assuming that the game is becoming corrupt. This happened right in front of me, and I have never seen such a blatant take out of an oppostion striker, if Matty Gilks had done the same, we would not have questioned it. Absolute and utter disgrace

would not put it pass the west ham board to find away to help keep pompey afloat at this rate so they don't loose 6 points

Just putting the match highlights on at the moment but have done the Robert Green clip below.
Depends what the ref put in his report according to the rules if he put he was the last man the red card has to removed, personally i still think its a straight red for a professional foul

Cheers Sherl, it was a sending off offence, didn't get near the ball, took the player out, debatable whether the defender was behind him when Beds was taken out.
Unbe flippin leivable

I'm sure that if it was Gilks then they would have come to the same decision................................................................................................................................not.
Looks like they are already being treated like a big Prem Team
