So its just gone lunch and everybody seems to have vanished after last nights result. lets hear your thoughts. From my view point in the south the first half was brilliant playing a 4-2-4 and maybe this is where the match should have been over by half time, got to be the best first half this season and that's two goals on the trot in the south net, as for the second half we just did not come out firing at all maybe we used everything up in the first half and if Ferguson had not been scythed down we might have gone on and got a second as we where just starting to get going again when it happened. think we should have not have made the other subs beside getting Ferguson off because of injury. As for the ref he has to get a special mention as he was very special indeed, when a hull player touches the ball out for a pool goal kick and turns away annoyed with himself and starts to run back to the half way line you stepped in and gave them a corner and when the linesman flags frantically on the sideline for a clear handball you wave play on, but i guess we should have finished them in the first half so only ourselves to blame. One more thing especially for Ted what a game from Southern fantastic and by far man of the match and we are going to need his never give up attitude in the run in.

I am still concerned about Wilson, he doesn't seem to knowwhere he should be at times. First half was fantastic, we should have had a hatful, although they could have scored a couple as well. The second half from 55-75 minutes was also like that.
The substitutions did seem strange, you could tell Bednar was struggling, and it would have made sense to bring on LuaLua as a replacement. Evatt coming on was also strange, what we NEVER do well is protect a lead and park the bus....as soon as he came on it was "Oh, Shit" Fleck does not seem to buy into what we are doing, he doesn't track back like everyone else.
We could have done with picking up all 3 points, fantastic entertainment though.
Big question recently is why do we swing from sublime football into sunday league nailbiting backs to the wall rubbish, and the other way round, so quickly???

1st half we were superb and should have put the game to bed, but with Pool one goal is never enough. Really felt our back 4 looked wobbly every time the ball was cossed in and was not surprised that Hull pulled it back. We still look far from solid at the back and I agree about Wilson who can be great for the majority of the game but then makes a couple of howlers. Good pace but needs more work.
Get the feeling that we are at a crossroad now and we will either push on for a comfotable play off or start a slide out of contention. You need momentum to win play offs and, just now, we don't have it.
A bit contentious this but I also worry sometimes about Lua Lua who can unlock defenses but also demands the ball in poor positions and just needs to think about his passing more. I like to see him in a more central role just behing the strikers. He certainly didn't help close the game down and keep possesion when thats what we needed.
I would have brought Dicko on for Bret after 60 mins and why Oh why did Philips not push up to give Bednar another option rather than him trying to bend it from a dificult angle. It would have been a tap in.
To end on a possitive I really like our midfield with Southern and Fergie and we always look better with Eardly and Crainey going forward. Southern was an easy MOM and Bednar is starting to show his class. With GTF and M Philips to come back for the final push its certainly do-able this season. Great time for Tom Ince to find a purple patch too.
Strap yourselves in everyone its going to get bumpy.

When we had those three corners inside at least five minutes, I thought we were going to be served up a goal feast, and it was very disappointing to go in at the break only one goal to the good - one of the best first 45s I've seen all season, despite not adding to our tally..
A bit dishonourable that they didn't kick the ball out straight off when our man went down.
Yes, the ref (and west-stand lino) had a bit of an uneasy game (more of a help to Hull than us) from our perspective, but when our subs came on -
"We cannot play five at the back" !!! ffs.
We've done it a couple of times in the (not too distant) past, and we got sunk - Everton game, methinks?
Is Evo starting to jinx us when he comes on in the second half?
(What the f is he doing not starting the game, anyway? I can remember last year when quite a lot of you got on my back in the nicest possible way when I omitted Evo from my team selections.....)
Thought Wee Ollie would have learned from that error of judgement....
Our main failing, as I see it, is that when we get to the edge of their penalty area, we're still trying to pass too much (dithering would be a more apt word, really!) instead of going for goal. Sorry, Ted - Keefie was well worthy of his MoM.
Ah, well... we're still in there with a fighting chance......

Only saw it online, I'm afraid, the atmosphere sounded brill.
Can't disagree with any of the above, I guess Ollie was pushed so many times to close out a game last season, he is trying to see how to do it. Last 5 mins they should have knocked it between themselves in the Hull half, Lu Lu should have taken it down in the corner and used his weight to keep it there and off the opposition.
Having said all that, in the first half with a tad more luck, and their goalie not having a blinder, we could have been 4 up.
And what are they feeding Gnasher? I want some, headers, great slick passes, no one getting past him, he and Fergie are a pretty formidable defensive midfield.
Mention for Incey, he had a bit of swagger last night and I thought he is starting to believe in himself, and you won't see a better goal, full marks to KP for the sublime layoff.
Would have loved to see Bash rather than Fleck last night, the latter needs a lot more practice to learn the all for one, one for all Poll approach.
GTF and Matty back into the mix up front, Cathy fit again at the back, and we have the look of a team who can cope with the huge number of games in the next few weeks. Reckon lots of the others will start to struggle to put out teams twice a week, sooooo different from our 14 men and the dog squad last year.

good to hear different views and agree with most except the bit about wilson being quick, he seem average to me when running back or chasing somebody and still would rather see evo start

I saw a glimmer of pace...honest!
Prefer Evo though as he just seems more committed. He has more of a goal threat too when we push forward and at set pieces.
Don't know whats happened to Fleck. He was anonymous last night but showed some real quality when he first arrived. Hope he clicks soon. Maybe Ollie is trying to teach him to play more forward than he's used to.
Decent set of results today but we still need a good run to make the playoffs

Definitely need Evo starting for me, with Baps or Cathcart, and Baps at full back if Cathy starts.
Midfield looks fine to me with Keith alongside Fergie (and Bash as a back up for either of them)
Up front I'd go for any 2 of GTF, Superbrett, Kev or LuaLua (with one of the 2 not starting on the bench with Bednar, in case we need to shake it up) and Mattie & Tom tearing it up out wide
guess my team would be :-
Gilks
Baps Evo Cathcart Crainey
Ferguson Southern
Ince Ormerod GTF M Phillips
Subs: Eardley Sylvestre Basham K Phillips Bednar

Notice you've no sub. goalie there, April, but it's a fair selected side, which I'd no qualms about putting on the pitch.
Who would go in goals that could stop a few piledrivers if McGilks got injured, though?
Halstead is our second 'keeper.

Only you would have thought of that answer, Sher! Now, I'm off to see who played who elsewhere, and the results .... apart from the Scouse Gits v Arses (just seen them on pub tele).
