Looks like the club have discovered PR lol
see it was not to painful to talk to the fans Karl.
In the first of a two-part interview Blackpool Chairman Karl Oyston discusses his latest meeting the manager, transfers and the futures of Brett Ormerod and Roman Bednar.
Karl, you met the manager on Tuesday having both had short breaks away and discussed a number of things, how did it go?
Yes, good. Ian's had a good holiday around Rome and him and Kim came up to empty their property near Burnley. He's decided that he doesn't want to stay over there so we're looking at somewhere in Lytham or St Annes for him to live.
We didn't talk too much, as we do sometimes we got a bit sidelined on youth. There is a massive upheaval in youth football and Ian is keen to make sure that we've got youngsters coming through here and play the same style of football as the first-team does. It's going to be a key summer for the youth setup because we need to decide on what staff we need in there and what policies we're going to implement.
We are largely hamstrung, of course, by the Premier League and Football League and the way that the Elite Player Performance plan is implemented. There's not too much latitude but I think there are certain things we can do to make our efforts bear fruit. Ian wants to be part of that and have some influence on that.
In terms of the first-team, the squad is in a more secure position this time around in comparison to last season.
I think this is the first time during my time here where we've not had more than one player, who joined us halfway through the season, out of contract that we wanted to retain. It's been a fantastic summer in that respect because we know who we're going to get back in pre-season. It probably gives us a bit more time to focus on those players that we want to come in and add to the squad. We both think that we need five or six that will affect the squad, rather than some of the ones that we took last summer that probably didn't affect the squad at all. I see little point in bringing in anymore that fit that category.
It's a case of making sure that we get one or two of the players that we're really after and that we really need in certain positions. There are two or three players that Ian is particularly keen on so we'll see where we get.
It's a difficult summer, not so much in the youth rules and legislation and the amount of money we're putting into youth but because financial play is now coming into force. Clubs will obviously be conscious of that and there will be a downward pressure on player wages that there hasn't been before. I think it will be an interesting summer to see how people adapt.
From what I've seen so far players are very keen to sign longer-term deals at lower rates, which shows that some players and advisors realise the situation.
Brett Ormerod was one of those players on the club's release list, are there still plans to speak to him?
That's one for the manager to discuss in terms of how Brett will fit into his plans. We're all very fond of Brett, and you shouldn't make decisions based on anything other than objectivity in football. Brett was here when I first got here and he's been a fantastic servant to the club and scored that all important goal for us in 2010. It would be nice to keep him around but it depends on what Brett wants because professional footballers always say they want to play for as long as they can. I think we need to talk to Brett and see what Ian wants to do. It would be nice to keep as many familiar faces as we possibly can here and keep that stability going that has served us pretty well.
The manager has already indicated that he'd like to keep Roman Bednar here, what's the latest there?
We've spoken to Roman's agent and it's down to him now to decide where his future lies because he's a free agent. I don't think we particularly saw the best of him, not through any fault of his. He came in and he got injured almost immediately after he popped a goal in. It would be nice for Roman to come along and join the club for a couple of years to see if he's as good as we all think he is, and I'm sure he is.
