Southampton have made a £6million bid for Blackpool's Matt Phillips, Press Association Sport understands. The 21-year-old has impressed since joining the Tangerines from Wycombe two years ago, plundering 18 goals for the npower Championship side last season. Phillips' form has seen him linked with a move away from Bloomfield Road, with the south coast club strongly linked as a potential destination. Press Association Sport understands that Southampton have firmed up their interest in the winger and made a £6million bid for the Scotland international. The move comes just days after Blackpool boss Ian Holloway pledged to report an unidentified club he claimed made an illegal approach for Phillips. Some reports named Southampton as the team in question, forcing Saints boss Nigel Adkins to deny such a move. "It's a shame that Blackpool have had to go and do things via the media in the way that they have done," he told the club's official website, www.saintsfc.co.uk. "I don't think there is any hiding from the fact that Matt is a player that we have been an admirer of for the past few years, and I think in the last couple of weeks he has probably been identified as a target for a number of teams in the Premier League. "I know that from the chairman's point of view he has been in contact with the Blackpool chairman and that we have had a conversation with their chief executive, and I have spoken to Ian Holloway myself, so it's not as if there has not been an interest demonstrated from Southampton. "As I have said, we like to think that we do everything properly, by the book and we will continue to do our matters privately and behind the scenes. Obviously this situation has now arisen and we will take action on that and respond in the appropriate manner."

I'll probably get shot down on here for this, but £6m is a good price right now for a raw 21 year old, who in my opinion is no-where near the finished article but also has bags of potential and could become world class in the future at our football club under the guideance of Ollie. Im undecided on this so ill leave it to Ollie and karl and back their decision. but if im going to put my sixpence in, i would keep him and see how he progresses this season, but what worries me now is his head being turned and him having a awful season.

Better put my tin hat on then. I say sell him one year left on contract and as high as he is rated by majority of Pool fans i think he would get found out in a different system and looking at what happened when we held on to Charlie i don't think starting the season with a pissed off Phillips is going to help

This would put Puncheon a long way down the pecking order, I know he has baggage but also talented, and on his day a very good player, worth a cheeky bid?

I agree lads. £6m is a good offer and we should accept. There's loads of talent out there and Ollie would have a plan B thats for sure. All I would add is that Ollie should be given to whole £6m to spend on a replacement (or two)
Never hold a player back if he believes his future is elsewhere. Once their heads are turned there is no going back. Somehow don't think he be a big miss if we get a decent replacement.
probably a few hidden gems in the Soton youth team we could negotiate with too as we did with Liverpool.

Personally, I'd rather we tell that lying bag of shite Badkins to take his d**k, shove it up his a**e and go f**k himself.
Always had a lot of time and respect for Sothampton but not that lying bag of shit.
If Matty goes, and I've not seen anything to suggest he wants to, then I don't care where he goes now so long as it's not St Marys

If Matty wants to go and i mean wants to go then as far as im concerned he can go to Le Tissier utd but how much do they want Matty, i mean really want him, Lambert in exchange!!!!!!!!!! + £6m If Soton have tapped him up, Potter will take them for everything they've got!!!!!lol

I did find it interesting that Ollie said that an un-named club had made an illegal approach but never mentioned which club it was
Badkins immediately started bleating like a Welsh sheep at a gang-bang about how innocent he was
Seems to me someone has a guilty conscience

If i was you Matty i would be very very careful because if the club refuses the sale Ian will put you in the youth team for 3 months.
Act correctly young man and for me you can now leave for 6 million
MATT Phillips will not face Millwall on Saturday after reports he’s handed in a transfer request at Bloomfield Road.
The 21-year-old is believed to have indicated his desire to leave the club and has withdrawn from the squad for Pool’s opening game of the season.
Blackpool are refusing to confirm whether or not a transfer request has been received, but are maintaining Premier League club Southampton have acted inappropriately in their pursuit of the Scotland international.
Blackpool reported the Saints over what they believe is an illegal approach last week.
And the latest developments are only going to anger boss Ian Holloway and Chairman Karl Oyston further.

Don't get me wrong everybody has the right to better themselves but to slap in a transfer request on the eve of the season and refuse to travel with the squad is not on Matty and its agent driven.
Plus you have not got a get out clause in your contract and its Ian that has bigged you up and got you to where you are.
I hope we get 7 million and puncheon in return and next year when we pass as you get relegated and the pool go up you can sit on the bench and wonder where it all went wrong.
I never attack any player that wears the tangerine but there are limits and you have gone way pass them

Agree with everything above, not great timing Matty, another Billy BIG head get rid now, if it's Premier league football your after Matty, remember Wembley, you should of stuck your chances away. Wycombe in league 2 only 2 years ago and it's us who took a gamble on you and bought you to the Premier league and you re-pay the club with a slap in the face The young man is going about his business in the wrong way and listening to too may people with bad advice and when it all goes Pete Tong, you can ask the same people for advice.

Oh dear Matty you seem to be in the dog house and not going anywhere according to ollie so you sort of screwed now only one way to redeem yourself and thats to have the best season ever if of course you make the team.
I would get a new agent if i was you
