Blackpool made six changes for the trip to Barnsley with Harris, Evatt, Ludo, K.&M. Phillips and Angel all coming in.
Pool made a slow start and Gilks made a wonder save to stop the hosts taking the lead in the first five minutes getting down well to his left.
This seemed to wake Pool up and they began to dominate possession. It seemed like only a matter of time before Blackpool would score with Matt Phillips shooting at the keeper who was also called into action to tip over a fierce drive from Baptiste.
However, the breakthrough came at the other end on the 15 minute mark when a Barnsley player picked the ball up in midfield, he didn't really seem to know what to do with it so decided to run at the Pool defence who backed off he then played a simple ball through to an unmarked forward who shot and the ball ended up in the net. Gilks will be very disappointed to have conceeded. It looked to be a very simple save but it somehow went straight through him.
Blackpool seemed to lose a bit of their impotus and Barnsley got more of the possession so it was a little unexpected when Pool equalised ten minutes before the break. Angel played a delightful ball through to Tom Ince who controlled, broke free and finished with aplomb.
The goal breathed new life into Pool who had the ball in the net again but Angel was adjudged to have been in an offside position.
At half time it was a surprise to see no changes particularlr as Kevin Phillips had been so utterly ineffective. I really do not understand why he is starting every game. He might be good as a last 15 min sub against tired defenders but he really does seem to have lost a yard or two of space.
When the subs were made it was Angel and Taylor-Fletcher who were taken off before Phillips with Osbourne, Gomes and Delfounseo coming on.
Blackpool dominated the game in the second half but were frustrated by Barnsley who got men behind the ball and limited Pool to mostly long range efforts. The best chance of the half fell to Gomes who saw his shot saved by Alnwick following good work by Ince and Baptiste had another shot tipped over.
Barnsley will be the happier team with a point but Blackpool cannot have too many complaints as they failed to create too many clear cut chances.
Eardley was absolutely woeful with his passing continually hitting the ball out of play or passing to a Barnsley player. We seriuously missed Crainey. If it was a tactical decision to play Harris then it was a shocking misjudgement. Harris looked shaky at the back and was nowhere near as good as Crainey at getting forward.
Matt Phillips looked slightly jaded and didn't make a huge contribution. Ludo played well but I would rather see a midfield three of Osbourne, Gomes and Angel as worked so well in the first three games. I fail to see why this partnership was disbanded.
The next two home games are crucial to stop a good start from becoming an average start. Six points would be very welcome.
